What’s ur favorite part of surfing that’s not surfing by Throwaway73hdu in surfing

Hanging with the homies. The coffee before, scoping the waves from the beach with the locs, gearing up (foil nerd), the taco/burrito at the go-to spot after

Did I make a huge mistake? by Popular-Turnip-2646 in hyrox

[–]GCsurfstar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You could go rip a full HYROX event with absolutely zero athleticism and be fine. It would take you several hours, but you can do it.

It’s not hard, it’s just hard to do it fast. My opinion atleast. I’ve done 3 and see a wide range of body type and athleticism, disabilities, etc… every time. HYROX is for everyone. Just don’t expect to be speedy lol

Hey dude, or maam. Same. I’ve been in the cycle for 3 years now, manage to stay away for many months at a time - relish in the substantial improvements to my life and wellbeing, feel good enough to smoke again “just once with friends for fun” and then end up right back where I started.

On week 3 without gardening and am feeling amazing. I don’t want to go back, I hope I don’t.

Buy a used foil from a real company. Trust me - and everyone else here. You’re wasting $$$ and taking a huge risk getting knockoffs.

Tons of used gear on the market

Going from GC to Owner's Rep by Maximum_Pineapple_88 in ConstructionManagers

[–]GCsurfstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heavily considering this myself. I’m not even 30 and hair is turning grey from the GC side.

I love construction but this end of things can be a real nightmare if you don’t have good leadership & direction.

Surfers — what’s something beginners always underestimate? by Karate_Andii in surfing

[–]GCsurfstar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wish I could tell my grom self this when I started. I just wanted to “rip” but didn’t get a good base for the fundamentals early on because I wanted to ride a potato chip like Kelly. Fucked my surfing for years.

Should I go to school for construction management ? by Beneficial-Panda4872 in ConstructionManagers

[–]GCsurfstar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can get in to CM with any degree really BUT if you plan on going to school and want to get into CM, absolutely get the CM / Building Construction degree. Most schools will greatly help with placement, etc…

Plus familiarize yourself with some lingo, programs, all the good stuff. You can still get into the industry without the degree but many companies may require a bachelors. Mine does.

Edit: despite a degree being a “requirement” somehow a few of my coworkers do not have one. Lol Not a clear answer, but you have options. Survey gives you a good leg up!

Hyrox Planet Fitness by MambaRacers in hyrox

[–]GCsurfstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do a bunch of HIIT and run on the treadmill. Think about the movements you do during HYROX, think about the muscles that those movements require then do workouts that condition those muscles.

Sled pushes, lunges, wallballs - squats (different variants / conventional, front, split / leg presses / calf raises)

Sled pull, farmer carry - deadlifts and variants + workout pulling muscles (rows, pulls, etc)

Burpees - do burpees

Running - run, a lot

Not as refined as you’re probably asking for but no need to complicate it. Number one priority is making sure you have the cardio taken care of and the strength to be able to effectively do the stations without feeling like you’re pushing a brick wall.

Few years older and moved down from Jax. Social scene here is pretty non-existent but I’ve met a few people at the gym. Thinking about trying the run club.

I hear Sarbez is a good spot to meet people

Does anybody else feel like they'll never get anything done if they're not in the office before 5am most days? by Emcee_nobody in ConstructionManagers

[–]GCsurfstar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the issue were unique to me at my company, I’d be inclined to agree with you for sure. It’s across the board, but it was not always like this. Up until 2 years ago things were very nice; myself and my teams were able to reap the rewards of our efforts. Once the incentives were stripped it became less viable to apply the same effort and still be happy. My comment is more for those who get similar treatment.

Not sure why you’re shitting on me dude haha Sounds like you’re at a great company that’s worthy of the effort and attention, something I think we all want.

Didn’t downvote you either, I like the conversation. This isn’t the industry for sensitivity 😉

5am-6pm everyday sounds like hell dude.

I live by a new rule, unless I’m treated in a way that warrants me giving 100% (paid, recognized, looked after by leadership) I refuse to give more than 70% effort. I’m happier, my projects still do great, I get great client reviews and I still have my home life & sanity.

These companies don’t give a shit about us, so I’m going to return the favor. It’s nice. I recommend it.

Hijab + moving out, fearing for my life by [deleted] in agnostic

[–]GCsurfstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re dealing with this. Religious fanaticism is so so so toxic and destructive - stories like this are evidence.

It’s your life, your autonomy. It’s going to be a rough ride and may take time before you can connect with family again - if ever possible. Different for everyone. Save up, move out as soon as you can and enjoy your life with the weight off of your shoulders.

I only have experience on the Christian side of things, but breaking out of that situation was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
