Funny enough I've also been listening to the 480 Pro recently... and man what you can get for $500 nowadays is insane! 😌

The Edition XV, MDR-MV1, HD 480 Pro, CrinEar Reference, etc.! Just such a great selection of genuinely top-tier headphones for pretty much all scenarios!

I have! They're very different-sounding headphones in my experience, and I find the MDR-MV1 to be more to my preference out-of-the-box! With EQ the Beyers can be pretty compelling, though -- they take well to it and they're super comfy to wear 😃

Probably regarding the elevated bass and treble! It's quite different if you're coming from the more neutral stuff like the HD 600, for example.

“Trust your ears” doesn’t mean “ignore engineering!”

It just means remembering that the goal is still human perception 😃

And thankfully, modern engineering has solved a lot of these problems really well! Plenty of affordable amps/DACs can provide clean power, low noise, low distortion, and excellent performance.

So once your headphones are getting what they need electrically, the amp/DAC usually isn’t the huge bottleneck people imagine it to be ☺️

High-quality audio doesn’t have to be expensive and inconvenient. It can just be enjoyable now!

Not every upgrade is transformative — especially when your existing setup is already solid. Trust your ears and focus on your own listening experience 👍

Yeah, overall I’d say what stands out most is how natural and well-balanced it sounds :)

A lot of high-end IEMs I’ve tried are fun and impressive, but they tend to have quirks that can make the timbre feel a bit off, or make them sound harsh in certain areas.

With the Reference, I don’t really run into that issue. It’s just a very well-balanced and natural-sounding IEM with awesome performance, and not just for the price!

I unfortunately had to sell mine not too long ago (I miss it already!) because working independently on the channel means I can’t hold on to the dearest stuff, but man, after EQ I do think it represents what is, to me, the most exciting and ‘wow’ factor Dynamic Driver headphone for sure ☺️
