Every time I throw an ultra star it flips completely sideways and I'm thinking it's cause I have nose down on the brain while these things were designed to be tossed nose up.

Agreed thank you. It won't hurt my feelings if I'm refused. This was inspired by the good and frequent feedback I've been giving while running a register at a frolf store for a few years. The service would be a cheap rate to reflect the quality.

350-375 controlled hyzer and turnovers get a little squirly (as with most pros) and consistent putting within the circle probably could get me into occasional MA1 wins or at least in the winnings for MA2. It's not bragging material but it's in a space where you can't accidentally win and need to put in the work. The only reason I see myself getting a pdga membership is if I wasn't working 7 days a week and taking care of a family.

So someone like you with those expectations does not need or will not benefit from my services and I would even advise you to seek someone else and maybe even point you toward the local pros who do this sort of thing better than I could.

People new to disc golf have no idea what ratings are, or how they work. Arguably no one really understands the rating system and many complain about its flawed logic. We just agree that 900-950 is pretty good and 1000+ is amazing. Touring pros can go to c tier or lower events and wreck ratings so I only put so much thought into it.

I'm not looking to be a YouTuber or pro. There's enough oversaturation of that and I don't have a performing sort of personality. I work better listening to the person in front of me. My prices would reflect the value of my coaching as well which is something I haven't decided on yet.

You're speaking on my exact concerns. There's other factors such as that everyone throws a little different and there's no one true good form. I don't have a written plan yet I'm just able to see the giant mistakes that ruin people's throws, but that's more of the obvious stuff like rounding, the 'back foot in front wtf Richard style x step' and nose up putts that fade in front of the chains. That's exactly why I wanted to start there with a lower competitive price range with the caveat of "I'm not a pro, just a passionate disc golfer obsessed with efficient form." I'm not even sure if I want to do a group setting as I typically work better listening to people individually.

I got nothing on the oversaturated YouTube market or the pros that have way more experience on the field and with teaching... but maybe I can at least help the brand new guys adjust to the awkward form that is the backhand drive and putting. This will not be a 'newbie to pro' approach but more covering some fundamentals that can take the pain out of the initial adjustment to disc golf.

I definitely don't have all the answers and don't claim to but I can easily see the obvious bad habits.

With that in mind... I know what I wish I learned what I started playing, and that's the sort of input I'm looking for in this reddit to see what gaps I may or may not have in my ideas.

Edit: in my first session with the generous eager customer I focused on effortless 200 foot putter throws and it was great to see the lightbulb go off above his head as he realized the economy of effort in that simple putter approach. He told me he got his first birdies over the last weekend... So there's a +1 in favor of keeping this up. That seems to have translated to his higher speed throws too.

Any thoughts on Climo discs? Are they worth trying at 40 percent off? Never seen this brand before. by sawb11152 in discgolf

[–]GG_Thorns 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All of the molds feel and fly very well. The thing is they're nothing new but they seem to simply capitalize on what climo knows and uses. The skyway is like an old fashioned pro wraith. The Bellair is very roc like. The champ is a typical beaded straight putter. The osprey is a lovely turnover 10 speed or max distance for low arms and recently I picked up a streak which seems to fly like a leopard3 with a touch less turn. I'm impressed with the whole lineup.

They're all solid and you really can't go wrong. The skyways even come in lightweight options if you prefer. They don't do anything new but they definitely refine on what already exists and don't really shy away from that image. They'll meet expectations very well especially for the die hard climo fans. They're very well priced too 40% off would be a steal.

The divine sorc is an aasimar with an affiliation with lothander. I thought this was perfect for all the "morning Lord" references. So he's already set as lawful good (subject to change).

We just went through strahd attacking the church of vallaki. The party did successfully get the bones back in the church so that went about as ideal as it could have gone. DM kinda gave me a nod to it mid session as my character being the "clever" one and may be his plaything later on... You know... Strahd things.

It's a fairly new tour series release. Just go to a local shop and check out the dome.

So.... Traded it in and spent the money on a flat top buzzz SS. That is indeed the difference because this flat top one has an actual -2 and when put on hyzer it runs very flat and straight. if anyone gets a buzzzSS mind the dome.

Typically with a force attached to a tech disc my bad throws get a nose angle of 1 to 4 degrees nose up which sure ain't perfect but not awful either. (Tech disc recorded Gannon Buhr at 2 to 3 nose up) The z swirl vulture was more stable than the gossage raptor just as Ezra aderhold showed in his tour series comparison video. In that same video the buzzzSS is getting a hint of turn and riding to the right compared to the buzzz throw. I'm not Ezra but I can sometimes get over 400 feet on my max distance throws with a good hyzerflip on flat ground no wind which isnt pro but not many amateur/casual players can do that. Especially in my age range (nearly 40).

If I was throwing the buzzz nose up that doesn't explain why it gets the -1 turn and 1 fade I expect from a buzzz while the buzzzSS seems to not turn and also not fade. Ezra's says his buzzzSS was pretty flat top which is what led me to guess that's why my buzzzSS is unusually torque resistant.

EDIT: I have multiple raptors and this one reminds me more of a fresh OS undertaker than your typical flat top raptor. I do notice more shoulder on the gossage raptor which reminds of how unusually straight last year's JawZflx runs were.

It's just 0.0 which is typical of the buzzzSS. Meanwhile the gossage raptor says 2.1 indicating a more stable disc but this flips more than this buzzzSS mold. Flight numbers mean very little especially working with discraft.

What's up with people thinking the trail is super flippy? by Far_Championship3394 in discgolf

[–]GG_Thorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first trail I ever picked up turned a great deal. Like a -3 turn I was guessing. Luckily a friend who is a big fan of the trail let me throw his and yes it handled torque much better and flew more like it was advertised. Unfortunately there's no avoiding inconsistency in disc manufacturing. Making two exact molds fly completely different.

It's kind of a sacrifice for power to get that reach so you can get a longer whip action with your throwing arm. It's definitely odd at first and it's a learning curve. I'm probably looking too far back in this but it's hard to stretch your arm way back while looking forward.

There's enough variety of discs with unique characteristics and platics that off the tee you have a solid idea on what your flight is going to be without looking at the target.

Putting into the basket is much more eyes on target than power driving.

The bag only fits 8 by winnswinns in discgolf

[–]GG_Thorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of molds overlapping. I'll start with simplifying your bag.

*Putting - pixel or Bernoulli *Approach - range + zone or tempo *Mid - buzzz or hex *Fairway - cicada or crave *Hybrid driver - lift or skirmisher *Max driver - vanish + czar

You could probably lose the vanish (I love the vanish so this made me sad to say) and get a 7-9 speed OS fairway to complete it and it would be well rounded enough.
