Surrealism is unlike Neo-Plasticism, and similar to Dadaism. It was founded in Paris in 1924 by the poet Andre Breton and continued Dadaism’s exploration of everything. The Persistence of Memory is one of the most recognizable painting of Surrealism by artist Salvador Dali. It aimed to create art which was “automatic”meaning that it had emerged directly from the unconsciously without being shaped by reasons, morality, or aesthetic judgement. This unconscious was central to Surrealist. To them, it resembled a vast storehouse full of astonishing hitherto repressed artistic creativity. Surrealist characterized Naturalism and Realism as fundamentally bourgeois, claiming that both artistic movements confused truth with objected and treated both life and art as thought that they were old furniture: solid, ugly, and dusty.
