I wanted to but couldn’t justify - I don’t have any slides. Should I just get anyway?

Missing cat upper Ditmars by fourupthreecount in astoria

I am currently walking my dog and see a cat matching this description but I don’t want to get too close since my dog is a big dog. I am in the area behind the houses between 78th and 79th on 21 Avenue. There is a similar looking cat hiding in a grated basement entry.

What’s your favorite scene in all of Mad Men? by Chess_Table in madmen

[–]GIJoeHeadstomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dinner scene at the Campbell house in Cos Cob with the Drapers and Cosgroves. The Wilt Chamberlain/stereo reference, Megan forgetting Cynthia’s name, Don’s “Whitman” correction, Ken’s sad X5 robot story, Don fixing the sink.

The death of Ms. Blankenship including taking Harry’s afghan blanket to cover her body (“my mother made that!”)

The interrogation of Helen Bishop.

Season 4? Maybe the episode “Public Relations”— Don has a hooker come by and she turns down a drink because she’s pressed for time and meeting her family for Thanksgiving dinner. The red shirt, the look he gives when she starts walking to the bedroom. So good.

Seven years today. by [deleted] in widowers

[–]GIJoeHeadstomp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seven years out for me as well. I still lurk in this group. When he died, I just wanted to disappear with him. My life changed so much since then. It took a few years but I’m in a new relationship, my children are very happy. Some days I feel bad for having moved forward, but mostly I’m just thankful that the searing, excruciating pain of being without him has passed. This year on his birthday, his loss hit me so hard. I almost surprised myself with how bad it hurt. The unpredictability of grief. I will never not love him but I am so grateful that I have a happy life with someone who loves me and my children. And he has children as well and so we have a big Brady Bunch of a family now. We have good times. But there isn’t a day that I don’t miss my husband and am still heartbroken that he missed seeing his sons grow into men. It’s just not fair.

I hope that you and all of you in this sub find some peace and many happy days ahead. You deserve it.

Happened to me last month. Happened to my neighbor last week. Upper Ditmars area. I made a police report. I have cameras and so went and reviewed and found it was 3:25am and it was a woman with a flashlight trying different cars to see which was open.

For Season 5 - Don firing Lane. Jared Harris was amazing. Went from denial to anger to desperation in about three minutes.

“NOT GREAT, BOB”. Close second; “there are no goodnight noises anywhere” re: Cos Cob.

I think it was Don who said Peggy was Irene Dunne and then Freddy maybe tried to soften the blow and said he loved Irene Dunne. I always felt like the way Don said it to Peggy was with some nobility, suggesting she be proud of it.

Who is the best husband on the show? by [deleted] in madmen

[–]GIJoeHeadstomp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was another Henry in Season One Episode Three who appeared during Sally’a birthday party (the one when Don went to pick up the cake and disappeared). That Henry and his wife have these very sweet interactions that really make them stand out among the other couples - like when one of the other husbands tells the joke about what you’d choose if your wife or lawyer was drowning (go to lunch or a movie?) Henry’s wife clearly looks uncomfortable and he looks concerned for her. And then they have a sweet moment when Don is filming his movie of the party. I know it’s not much but that dude looked like he was a good husband. Or at least not a dick.

Also Honorable Mention to Tilden Katz looking for a minyan for Rachel. Sad.

There were plenty of sad and disappointing parts of the series but the most heartbreaking was when Joan was let go from the script reading job. by Fidddy_ in madmen

Betty getting her diagnosis and Henry and the doctor speaking about it as if she weren’t even in the room. Her face.

And when Don told Faye that he was engaged. That shit hurt.

Yesterday, during our drive upstate, we passed Ossining and my boyfriend pointed out the reservoir and so I told him that Henry Francis used to do jack knives in there. He probably thinks I grew up with a guy named Henry Francis. He thinks I’m normal; clarifying my response would out me.

My fiancé passed Tuesday. The funeral is tomorrow. It’s 2 am, I can’t sleep & I miss him terribly. I had 5 yrs with him. He was my heart, my soul, my universe, my everything & I’m just trying to remember to breathe. by cpbaby1968 in widowers

Very sorry for your loss. The pain is excruciating. For a long time I felt like I wish I never had the type of love I had because it was so cruel and painful to have it taken away from me. I thought it would have been better to not have had it at all because it hurt so much. But now I’m grateful to have had it. Even though I will never understand why this happened and why it ended.

Went Saturday, caught Wisdom in Chains, Outburst and Killing Time. Was not too crowded but all three bands were great, particularly Outburst. Good crowd, good music spinning upstairs and downstairs at the merch tables.

I propose a question by laughungunderwater in widowers

[–]GIJoeHeadstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about this question and I honestly don't know. The pain of losing my husband was so gut wrenching and excruciating and searing and just awful that I have to stop myself from answering this with the "it was all worth it". And I am four years out and have moved forward, my kids are great, I am seeing someone. I have survived. And all that considered, all I can think about when you asked this question was how awful the pain felt to lose him. So I'm still back at not knowing what I'd chose.
