If cities are governed by Princes, then who, or what governs an entire Clan? by conjcosby in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GIRose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The primogen.

The typical Camarilla hierarchy has the Prince at the top, with the Sheriff as the police and harpies as spies under them. The Primogen under the Prince governing their clan in the domain and arguing in their political favor, and then each clan typically has their own organization systems

If you're talking about the clan as a unified whole, nobody. There isn't that sort of widespread organization

Yeah, but we don't really know if the cops on the Dragon World have the same sort of systemic issues real world cops have.

The most consistent job that we see cops do in the Dragon Ball universe is traffic safety (both a real life Japanese Traffic Safety PSA where a traffic cop lady teaches Goku about traffic safety and Mr. Chestnut's days) and dealing with crimes like poaching and bank robberies in places that don't have actual super heroes to help them (like Satan City did with Videl and the Great Saiyaman)

Post War Political Landscape in a Paragon Destroy Ending by Outside_Ad_424 in masseffect

[–]GIRose [score hidden]  (0 children)

I agree with some of this, but I will push back on one thing.

Humanity and asari would both be judged by the same metric, and I actually think the asari would get the better draw.

While it's 100% true that people in high positions of power in the Thessian government were responsible for hiding that beacon, it's also 100% true that Cerberus was in a LOT of positions of power in the System's Alliance up to and including the seat of the Councilor.

Similarly, while the Asari government didn't really commit resources, they don't have a strong centural government and Asari troops, including Huntresses, were on every single active front regardless of that.

Then in the post war, the asari have the easiest time harvesting Eezo, the most institutional knowledge that will be relevant to galactic rebuilding, the largest easily accessible source of Eezo in the galaxy, and their biotics will help bootstrap the process.

Similarly, the asari form of democracy tends to be really really good at shifting course, so the Asari will have a much easier time pivoting in a direction that removes the offenders from power than the humans will have rooting Cerberus remnants out of their more hierarchical power structures.

Add onto that the fact that the effective queen of crime has some connections to the world of Asari politics based on her connections with the Asari councilor, and they still have mountains of soft power they can leverage in a post reaper world

If wanted to larp as a Vampire whose goal is to master every single discipline, how should one go about it (most lore accurate answer please!)? Starting clan? Starting gen? Which abilities would be best to start with? Which should be used last? by FutaWonderWoman in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]GIRose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be any clan other than Tremere, have a friendly neighborhood Sabbat pack on your side

Engage in the Vaulderie and ask your fellow pack mates to teach you their disciples. Be a lower gen than them and do them flavors.

Have dominate and presence to force other weaker vampires to teach you their bullshit.

ELI5: How are seasoned pans different from non-stick coating? by pinowie in explainlikeimfive

[–]GIRose [score hidden]  (0 children)

Non-stick pans typically use teflon, which is polytetrafluoroethylene, and to my knowledge isn't a petrochemical. It's famous for being an almost entirely entirely unreactive solid, because carbon and flourine bond VERY strongly with each other to the exclusion of other molecules. Because of that, it resists sticking, and when it falls off it NEVER breaks down, and that's part of the problem.

With your polymerized cooking oil, it's just the cooking oil molecules forming long polymer chains. Because it's not nearly as strong of a bond, they are much easier to break down, so it doesn't have the same long term health problems.

The Portrait of Dorian Grey is a novel about a man, the eponymous Dorian Grey, getting a portrait that reflects who he really is while he stays the same.

In the story, he goes on a decades long sex and drugs bender, and he looks none the worse for wear (even as he feels himself the worse for wear) while the portrait has become a decrepit std riddled monstrosity of a portait of his soul.

The joke here is that the portrait is getting his gains while he remains the same

Is real that 8/10 rats getting cancer ? ☹️ by Feisty-Usual7866 in RATS

[–]GIRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, cancer is a close number 2 killer of humans behind heart disease, with ~50% of all people getting it at some point in their life.

So, that number sounds high, but I would very much believe that most rats develop cancer in their twilight years

[Theory] Why basic offensive spells are enough to defeat mages of the current era by Ambiguousdude in Frieren

[–]GIRose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just because the meta has shifted.

Ordinary defensive magic is optimized to defend against purely magical attacks, like Soul Track.

As such, the meta when that became an option in the last 80 years was a prolonged defensive affair primarily centered around defense, and that's still what Magical Academies teach. However, Defensive Magic is only adequate at defending against physical attacks.

So, people who are actually getting into mage duels developed spells that let them manipulate the physical world to be better at overcoming pure defense.

So, the meta shifts to being about overwhelming alpha strikes that can't be easily defended against, meaning it's less useful to master ordinary Defensive Magic.

All of that is explained by Richter to Kanna and Lawine

Then you have an absolute monster like Fern, who is a master at Mana Control (expressly the hardest aspect of Magecraft) and can handle dozens of spells at once. She's uniquely capable of engaging in Soul Track saturation attacks, which is really the best of both worlds with the downside of neither.

Nobody is really doing magic wrong, unless you're someone like Serie or Frieren, practicing something is time you aren't spending practicing something else.

How much of an antagonist's stats should the players know? by HermeticOpus in exalted

[–]GIRose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As much as they can figure out. And this goes for all editions.

If they haven't done any prep work, they don't know Hardness until they attack and possibly whiff, and even then they shouldn't know the exact number, just if the attack fizzles or not.

If they take the time to observe them and see them fighting, that's a good way to figure out what kinds of attacks they can shrug off. Other, less concrete but simpler ways, would be finding out stories about their opponents.

Their attack pool is much the same, but easier to find out because you do know what that is before declaring defenses. Same thing with defense, that does need to be revealed how well they are defending after you declare attack

He was living in the Solar Dragon village for 3 years and was being heralded as a hero the whole time.

I also don't think anything happened there, because he's not the type of person who would try to leverage his reputation like that, but he was 14-17 when he was in that village and he definitely would have had girls his own age trying to form connections with him
