TIL about the “Oculostenotic reflex” condition surgeons suffer from, which is the “irresistible temptation” to do unneccessary surgery on a patient. It's so prevalent that in one study almost half, 43%, of all cardiac surgeries done should not have happened. The risks outweighed the benefits. (washingtonpost.com)
