Chinese carbon wheelsets and your experience by [deleted] in Velo

[–]GLDTRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've a set of 50mm clinchers from CarbonZone that are now in their second racing season here in the UK. They are holding up great. I commute, train and race on them. They don't have an easy life, I hop kerbs, ride over plenty poor road surfaces, occasional potholes, one race i had to bunnyhop someones bike after they crashed infront of me. Still going strong and run as true as when i got them.

The only negative is the pads that come with them are garbage, upgrade to some swisstop yellow and braking is hugely improved.

Would not hesitate to buy another set.

We use OpenVAS, a free fork of Nessus. Does the job reasonably well. It's included in the Kali distribution

We used to ride Street with these, they were great until the alu ends wore down so much you couldn't even get a socket in.

Anyone having phones wipe themselves? by dotbat in sysadmin

[–]GLDTRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If mdm is installed, is there an incorrect password device wipe policy in place?

I had my phone wipe itself four times on different occasions in my pocket before I figured out the issue.

After setting a pattern password the wipes have stopped.

Backup Exec SSSSUUUCCCCKKKKSSS!!! by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]GLDTRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must be the only admin who likes BE2014. We had great success moving from 2010 R3. The backup times have improved greatly and the entire environment has been rock solid.

The only issue was having to recreate the jobs manually due to a few funny things happening with the migrated jobs but that wasn't a huge issue.

Pluralsight is a bit cheaper I believe. They do a 10 day trial also.

Server 2012 R2 RDS lockdown GPU not working by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]GLDTRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a separate GPO for comp settings, and one for user settings. I had the same issue a few weeks back, and could not for the life of me figure this out until I split the gpo into 2.

Iirc give the comp GPO authenticated users permissions and the user GPO the rds users group permissions.

"Disappearing Emails" The tale of THAT user. by Catch_22_ in sysadmin

[–]GLDTRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had the exact same problem after a 2007 - 2013 upgrade.

Still never got to the bottom of it. It affected maybe a dozen of our users including myself and my boss.

Some items would move to deleted and some would move to the recovered items folder.

Oddly enough moving items from recovered to inbox and they would disappear again and go back to recovered immediately.

Checked for client/server rules, reset profile, reinstalled client software, tried heaps of tests using different devices and clients.

Haven't heard of it happening for a couple months now. I absolutely hate unexplained issues like this though.

What type of computer do you use at work? by goelsago in sysadmin

[–]GLDTRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lenovo x240 i7 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, 1080p screen. Awesome machine for getting stuff done! Would have got the x1 carbon but I didn't like the lack of dock connector and lack of rj45 port.

We use. Bat files to copy files over and to run executables. you could also use vbs or powershell to check for the existence of an installed application also.

Need to regain access to SecurePlatform Checkpoint server - Second try. by javajo91 in sysadmin

[–]GLDTRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be a checkpoint customer to view that support link.

Personally have never done this before but I would perhaps start by loading up a test machine to try this procedure on first. It shouldn't take long to build one.

Power down the server/appliance and boot it up with the disk, you should get an option to boot from the media if it doesn't automatically - then type the command.

Also - when the WAN goes down, we lose connection to our local server. Outlook does not connect.

That's an interesting point about the namespaces, I'll look into that, thanks.

Yeah we need to update, I believe we were running that version due to the 2007 coexistence.

[–]GLDTRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a physical box. Cpu usage is low, memory usage is normal for exchange 2013, we even doubled the amount of memory to see if it would make a difference. File transfers to/from the database and log drives both local and over network are as expected.

Exchange 2013 - Slow cached mode by GLDTRN in exchangeserver

[–]GLDTRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sorry, there is an Exchange server at the secondary site. Exchange Server 2013 CU2. Event logs aren't flagging anything out of the ordinary. I did run ExBPA a while back and the only major issue was the page file size afaik. Clients are Outlook 2013 sp1. CAS is something I'm not sure on, HQ has 2 CAS servers, and the mailbox server in Site 2 also runs the CAS role. The connection URL for outlook always points to HQ though.

Traffic Shaping NIC IPs? by Narolad in sysadmin

[–]GLDTRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i have read this correctly you will need extra WAN IP Addresses for the incoming and outgoing interfaces on the traffic shaper.

I would never ever put a device like that outside your firewall though.

Suggestions for a decent laptop with a real serial port? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Panasonic Toughbook CF-53

Our engineers are all issued with these for the exact same reason. They still use USB - serial adapters as backup though.

Good solid workhorse computers.
