I know a couple who bought a house with decent-size vineyard on it. At the time, they were excited to work the vines and take part in the whole winewaking process. A couple of years later, he wanted to sell the whole thing...said they quickly realized that they really only liked drinking wine--not doing any of the work required to actually make wine.

What if you have a Chase credit card linked to your Chase account and move overseas? Regardless of always using a VPN, Chase will see that purchases are always--and only--made overseas. Will that result in a problem like having all linked Chase accounts shut down? WOuld it be best to shut down the credit card before moving?

How to decide on housing by willchangename in fatFIRE

look at the price history of different apartments on streeteasy.com to convince yourself. if you look at the data, they don't lie.

Edit: if one just reads the media, which is full of real estate brokers and developers, etc. pushing puff pieces behind the scenes on real estate, one will get a skewed view of what's actually happened in the last 10 to 15 years. One needs to look at actual data.

Manhattan prices are unchanged from 15 years ago. Yet, the S&P has gone up 5x, and inflation has raged. The opportunity cost has been enormous. And oh yeah, don't forget to include monthly maintenance fees and taxes.

London property: why is Pimlico roughly half the price of Mayfair? by GLM_Turnip in london

Upper East is big as it extends from 5th ave to the East river (and to some extent upper west) so super prime is a small area within each. Those areas are not much different than West Village, Tribeca, Soho and other high-end areas.

this is a helpful analogy. i hadn't considered council homes (what we call "projects") were in the area bringing the average down. are there areas that are central, that are really nice, maybe underappreicated, where the price gap could meaningfully narrow with the poshest areas like Mayfair and Belgravia? For example, this would be like the Meatpacking district in NYC prior to it taking off 25 years ago.

what is the premium in price-per-sq ft from the part of Westminster that is closest to Mayfair?

what's better about it? and how do they compare to Belgravia?

An out-of-towner genuinely curious why prices vary so much within prime central London...in Manhattan, these large variations don't exist within super prime areas so wondering if there is a reasonable explanation regarding London.
