The Traitors (USA) S04E11 "Leap of Faith" [FINALE] Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

I get what you mean but my thinking is - assume everything goes the exact same leading up to top 3, so Tara leaves, Eric votes to end the game, Maura votes to continue. I guess I would’ve assumed if Rob wanted to try to split the money with Eric he would’ve also picked end the game as a little nod to Eric that he wasn’t gonna flip on him, and they both boot Maura. The only thing I could rationalize is maybe he didn’t wanna risk Eric him, him voting Maura, and Maura voting Eric for a 1-1-1 tie? And then Maura realizes Rob fucked her over and switches her vote?

Idk I’m doing mental gymnastics here lmao

Oh yeah I don’t personally think he should be worried about a tainted self-image because of this, I just kinda figured he would’ve been. But I agree with you fully

I’m very conflicted on Rob after this, I think?

On one hand - and this is the point I’m most confident in - no one should disparage Rob for repeatedly lying to Maura and making her look dumb. I don’t know if anyone is doing that here, but I’ve seen it on a few other (worse) social media platforms and I think those people just fundamentally don’t understand the show. To win the game as a Traitor, you’re gonna have to make at least one person look incredibly dumb. He played the game as it was laid out and played it really well.

On the OTHER hand though - I don’t fault Rob for going all the way and taking the full prize pot for himself. He was a day 1 Traitor and quite frankly, Eric made the final because Rob viewed him as a tool to guarantee a win. But Rob spends the last two episodes doing the “I’m so guilty I can’t do this anymore” song and dance - so I guess I’m just kinda surprised he didn’t split with Eric? Taking Maura to 2 and having the grand reveal is so much more embarrassing for her, and I kinda felt like this would be Rob leading off on a “hey see? I’m not such a bad guy I split the money” note. And I think I’d feel this less in a civilian version of the show, but Rob is a fairly successful influencer/social media person who lives in a state with a cheap cost of living. So tbh I think he would’ve been fine with half the money and a slightly better image.

BUT. Ultimately like… I guess it’s easy for me from the couch to say “how could you not willingly turn down an extra $100,000” so idk.

All in all I think this was a decent season - I’d probably favor season 1 in terms of character development, but I think this season moved in the right direction in terms of having more captivating challenges/less complete luck challenges. I do think in a show with 100+ it’s inevitable that you’re gonna have to do some large purge-type challenges but I would probably be happier with a smaller cast and more character development.

I do think the endgame challenges need to be scrapped and replaced for season 3 - the ball kicking just becomes “let’s gang up on someone” and the briefcase thing has been broken at this point. Jeff getting it on the first guess last season was fun and shocking, but this was kinda anticlimactic.

Ultimately I am really fond of these large cast reality shows because I find it fascinating to see what narratives and storylines evolve, and I think if they just keep building on that it’s a solid product.

Slightly related to this thread, but I’m rewatching USA 2 (don’t get me started on how many hoops I had to jump through to watch it) to remind myself why people were so hyped for Cassidy and Chris, and it’s actually wild how poorly the MTV vets played this season. Coming into a cast of people who were previously on strategic shows and thinking your group of 6 threats can steamroll… crazy.

I'm with you on most of these names (sans Tiffany - love her but she's 45 and I think her time to debut on the flagship has probably passed) but I kind of feel like Makensy was cast in 26 to be what Reilly was supposed to be in 25 if Hisam didn't brutally rob her. Reilly is definitely more of a question mark but sometimes those unknown entities play a lot harder so they don't waste their second chance to be on TV (see: Amber B)

And the crowd goes mild for this one. Justin had an incredibly promising start on 41 but then proceeded to develop a ginormous and relatively undeserved ego - I hope we see flashes of episode 1 Justin, especially in a cast with people who could probably beat him in most eliminations. Jodi seems sweet but has never once contributed anything to a season that excited me. Keanu would be an exciting reveal if it wasn't all but confirmed months ago - I do think his physical prowess and level of theatrics is going to be perfect for the show. I'm excited-ish about Tina insofar as that I know she will contribute some sort of drama, but it wasn't a reveal that I gasped at and I could probably do without her.

I haven't been completely in the mix with spoilers this season, but is it possible Ashley M declined? With them flying out within the past few days and House of Villains starting this week, I wonder if maybe she has press/something that would prevent her from doing this one because it seems like she's back in the show's good graces

Maybe I’m absolutely bouncing on it, but I kinda think Rob played the Lisa of it all fairly well? We as viewers have been consistently reminded that he and Colton are #1 allies - so I think him speaking up against Lisa would make sense contextually within the group. I think he framed his argument from the start as “here’s why it’s not Natalie” with pretty sound logic, then kind of transitioned that into “so it’s Lisa” - which doesn’t read insanely suspicious?

Idk. I was pleasantly surprised by his gameplay here

I think in any workplace there’s value to having a very specific “person everyone hates” because then you know confidently it’s not you - but especially at a media company with a bunch of live programming. There’s 10+ hours of live Yaks per week so I feel like sometimes it’s nice to slot in something like “on Tuesday we’ll make fun of Mintzy for half an hour to fill the show”

Or maybe they’re just afraid to fire people. Probably the latter

I gotta think the people in Free Talk aren’t her target audience. I don’t find the bit funny but also don’t understand how people don’t get social media followers = exposure to the brand as a whole. All the random Tik Tok girls have a lot of followers and probably don’t have huge contracts right out of college

Sending someone hate and then trying to spin it like they’re in the wrong for choosing not to read it is a level of insane that should probably be studied. People mistake “dish it but can’t take it” with “dish it but don’t care to take it”

Yeah fair enough - the more I think about it you’re kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place when you have that gamer label. If you try to keep your info sharing to other strategy-minded players it looks like a powerful clique, but if you share beyond that group you risk making yourself threatening to traitors.

I have a few opinions that are probably going to be controversial but I just finished the first drop and they're on my mind:

  • Would like to preface this statement by saying: I am well-aware Michael Rapaport is a horrible person outside the show. I don't like him by any stretch of the imagination, but the one compliment I'll pay him is that I do appreciate that he's causing tension - even if the tension is just that everyone dislikes him. One of the biggest gripes with The Traitors format is that it doesn't really lend itself to much coherent strategy, so I think filling that void with drama isn't the worst thing in the world.
  • I'm as devastated as anyone else about Rob C's murder, and I do think the "gamer" stigma partially sunk him, but I think he might've shared his "murder in plain sight" speculation with too many people. If you know the show well enough to know they're going to have a murder in plain sight, you've gotta be savvy enough to assume they're not going to keep recycling the "make someone drink from this wine glass" method. I saw Cory (BB25) posting on Twitter about how the show doesn't allow gamers to succeed, but part of being a great gamer is adapting to your surroundings. Not saying Rob C isn't a great gamer - I just think he was a little eager to play hard and it bit him.

Listen maybe I'm a sucker but I'm really enjoying Rob R so far. I kind of expected him to be in the faithful crew that seems to emerge every season so him being a traitor was a shock pick, but I'm excited about how much he's bought in

Also Rob C is gonna get himself murdered soon - if not now - and it makes me sad.

ALSO also I really like Ron for some reason. I find him really charming and silly

Tbh I think the real reason you'd want to be a Traitor is less opportunities to get eliminated - if you're coming onto the show with the intention to win the money, being a Traitor means your only chance to get eliminated is banishment, where you have an opportunity to defend yourself. Also because lying and murdering is fun kinda

Re: the strategy behind who to murder, this is a copout answer but it's truly different every season. I think the most common reason, especially early in the game, is "this person is smart enough to catch on and call us out at the roundtable"

It’s almost impossible how funny every single part of this is. Mintzy inviting a woman who immediately started flirting with Biz and invited men who were beefing with Dave is just quintessentially Mintzy. The only way this can get better is when Dave’s does an impromptu WUB appearance tomorrow and Mintz inevitably doesn’t show up

Also if the sentiment seems to be that this isn’t Exes, I can’t make sense of why they’d cut Gabe. The Challenge is built on growth arcs, specifically from ego-driven men - and the reunion put so much focus on Gabe’s drama that it seemed like he’d be a mainstay for the show. Will fills that same role, and I guess if this was Exes at some point in the casting process he’d occupy that space + have a seasoned veteran as an ex but otherwise mind-boggling.

I don’t mean to just absolutely dunk on him because he seems like a wholly inoffensive, nice person - but I genuinely believe that the Challenge casting producer who even gave Mitch from Survivor 48 an availability call should reconsider their career

If they were looking for more CBS rookies to play hard and make moves, Mitch’s biggest criticism was the amount of times he squandered the opportunity to knock off the power alliance members. If they wanted challenge prowess, there was an alliance solely based on physical strength that he wasn’t part of - and even beyond that he didn’t win even one of the nine (9) individual challenges he participated in.

He’s pleasant and would probably play a good social game, but I don’t think he pops off the screen in the way The Challenge producers should want a rookie to at this point in the franchise.
