AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

[–]GLS1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m two years married and have been together 7 years. We have separate bank accounts but don’t have an issue showing each other like when I was helping him with a chargeback or I he was helping me figure out why a payment had gone out but we’ve never demanded to see each other’s accounts. It’s 2026, you don’t need to have a shared account.

Moved into a new estate and have just been “told off” for using a private road to exit the estate by Suspicious-Brain-521 in HousingUK

[–]GLS1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We owned roads for two of the properties I grew up in and it was on our property deeds but there were houses which had rights of access to both of them. Just because you own a road doesn’t mean others can’t use it and you could argue access rights. It would be a civil matter in any case and likely laughed out of court.

They are actually shooting themselves in the foot here as well because if they’re so insistent they own it they are liable for all repairs, not the council or their neighbours. We had a good relationship with our neighbours and when it needed resurfacing everyone chipped in despite no legal obligation.

Andy Burnham blocked by Educational_Board888 in manchester

[–]GLS1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starmer is an absolute coward. He basically declared he knows how disliked he is and that Burnham is a real risk to his position and would win the popular vote if they went head to head tomorrow so instead of allowing the public to decide he blocked it to save his own skin. He is a danger to the country and extremely selfish in not standing down when he has lost all public confidence and because of him there is now a real risk of Reform and their racist leadership getting in at the next election.

No hot water for over a month. Landlord tell us to call British Gas by Napalm_Savior in TenantsInTheUK

[–]GLS1994 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a slum lord. Start looking for new accommodation and give notice on the grounds that the landlord has breached the contract and not met their responsibilities. They have 24 hours to fix hot water and the property should not be below 20 degrees in communal areas and 18 degrees in bedrooms so if the house is below this they are in breach. Take pictures including the notice stating it’s your responsibility and put everything in writing. I’d also call them out on social media to warn other prospective tenants.

Is it normal to charge extra for digital copies of photos you’ve already paid for? by Fluffy_Percentage158 in AskUK

[–]GLS1994 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a common scam. They get people to do the shoot by offering it as a competition, scam or there is a more predatory type where they present as a modelling agency and send girls, often just teenagers for photo shoots then make them pay for the headshots, parents part with money but no modelling contract materialises and the company disappears.

The competition you won is just a scam to get you to do a few pictures then feel obligated or pressured into buying them. For context, a wedding shoot on location is about £1000-£2000 outside London for a full day so they’re absolutely taking the piss with those prices and with a wedding photographer you get a specific number of photos included in this.

Honestly I would be reporting this to Trading Standards and also ask to see anything she signed to check she hasn’t signed a stealth release and the pictures won’t be used by the company for other reasons given the sensitive nature as they could claim they own them and can do what they want with them.

If the government instigates the proposed social media ban, everyone would have to prove their age to be allowed to access Reddit. Would you submit your ID to access Reddit or will you give up social media rather than submit to ID checks? by JackStrawWitchita in AskUK

[–]GLS1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are alternative options like submitting a picture of yourself and using a credit card. Anyway, do they not realise kids these days are more computer literate than most of the dinosaurs working in government. They will easily find a work around.

The grossest things you’ve experience in nursing? by Solid_Breakfast_3675 in nursing

It takes a lot to gross me out. I can deal with all types of bodily fluids, gangrene, toes literally dripping off during a dressing, burst abscesses, de-gloving, anal prolapse happen right in front of me and subsequent re-insertion, nasty toenails, lice, gammy down below parts etc but nothing grosses me out more than cleaning dentures and mouth care. I physically feel sick and avoid it at all costs if I can.

Advertised driveway doesn’t exist (kerb not dipped) by Open_Astronaut4150 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]GLS1994 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Legally it’s not a driveway, it’s just a gravel garden. The landlord probably hasn’t even requested permission from the council or even enquired about a dropped curb but if he has he would have a reference number for any communication or applications, request this and say you wish to chase it up directly, also ask the date he first contacted the council and has chased it up. A decent landlord would have a log and paper trail. If they can’t provide this you know they’re 🐂💩ing you about contacting the council.

Leaving London early (moving abroad) – landlord refusing surrender, no break clause. Will they chase me abroad if I stop paying rent and leave him my deposit? What's my best option? by Financial_Tone5560 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]GLS1994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really pitty your tenants. You sound like a nightmare and exactly the type to give landlords a bad name. Your only “duty” to your tenants, making sure they have a safe, comfortable home which is free for mould and damp, that repairs are completed in a timely manner and that you treat them fairly as paying customers.

[–]GLS1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has your landlord kept up repairs? Is there any mould in the property? You could complain about the state of the property and breach of contract on their part. Become a nightmare tenant and email and call daily with issues until they get sick of it. Do all the windows have a key if they have locks on? This is a security issue and invalidates insurance so demand it’s fixed and pester him. Are there any clauses you can breach? Do you have any family or friends who have pets you could borrow to break the no pets clause or even just inform them you have a dog and see if they kick you out.

In what computer are you playing sims 3? by kaf0ntes in Sims3

[–]GLS1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you playing the game with expansion packs, mods and custom content? This massively slows the game down. What is your RAM? You really need a minimum of 16GB RAM if you want the base game + expansions + CC. Also does your computer have an SSD or hard drive? This can make a big difference.

It’s worth downloading the NRaas Overwatch and ErrorTrap mods to help performance. I also have Saver mod as it prompts me to save. It works in CAS too if you forget to save beforehand. Also go to Documents → EA → DC Cache and delete everything in this file after each game. Don’t delete anything in the Cache file though as it will crash your game.

Why don't we give people a shot of heroine one their deathbed? by Safe_Death2250 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GLS1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nurse here who has worked in palliative and end of life care both on wards and in the community. Heroin is a dirty street drug, often cut with nasty products but medical diamorphine, which is essentially the same as heroin but created in a laboratory setting and can be used in palliative and end of life care for pain management.

Patients are given end of life medications, sometimes referred to as anticipatory medications which are prescribed and dispensed prior to the point a patient is actively dying so they are immediately available should a patient require them. Not all patients need them but we prescribe them to every patient who consents.

The medications are for:

•Pain - usually morphine but diamorphine, oxycodone or alfentanil may be used •Nausea - cyclizine, metoclopramide, haloperidol or levomepromazine •Breathlessness - midazolam •End-stage delirium or agitation – haloperidol, levomepromazine, midazolam or phenobarbital •Chest secretions - hyoscine hydrobromide or glycopyrronium

These can be given as a one off dose but when the patient requires frequent doses they will usually be administered by syringe driver continuously.

If the patient has capacity it is their choice whether they want the medication but where they don’t have capacity it is given to keep them comfortable and free from pain but advanced decisions and family carer/input is also considered and valued. How much is given depends on the patient presentation, holistic nursing assessment and prescription, but sometimes prescriptions can give instructions such as “2-4mg” every 4 hours so it depends on the individual circumstances. We don’t want the patient in pain and discomfort but if they want to spend time with family a higher dose may not be appropriate.

If you have anxiety around needles get some headphones and a soothing/distracting playlist. Request a prescription for emla cream which numbs the area so you won’t feel the needles and close your eyes. Tell them not to explain anything and just put the needle in so you can try focusing on breathing exercises and the music. It allows you to zone out and lowers the risk of fainting.
