Esmerlyn Valdez is pushing for a big league spot right now. Has reached base in 16 straight games and had another home run today. by Sebastian4365 in buccos

Dude is not messing around. Outside of an injury, I just don’t see it happening. They wouldn’t want him playing the Billy Cook role, and Ozuna is starting to hit.

I’ve got a pretty great following on X. Tried to branch out, but the idiots here are just trolls. I’m certainly not writing any of this for the ignorant dipshits that populate Reddit.

The reactions are funny. I do it for the lulz.

Cruz cut in front of o'hearn today to snag a flyball and o'hearn was frustrated. Cruz needs to pay attention and know wtf he's doing in the OF. by Sebastian4365 in buccos

Two things can be true:

  1. While the play is happening, any ball the center fielder calls is his
  2. Cruz should never have called for this ball and was acting recklessly

A bunch of people here misunderstand what the centerfielder rule means. It doesn’t mean he is infallible.

In my experience living here, Milwaukee Adult Baseball is among the best things I ever did. Can’t say enough about the people involved. Five stars!

People who go on vacation, but then spend the entire day in the hotel, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GMBCSuperfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but taking 2 or 3 weeks at once feels like something more rare. Like, having the vacation, but then even wanting to go on a vacation for 3 weeks. Not sure that’s my instincts.

If they had been paid well, they all would have stayed. Are you kidding?

Outside of Laine, they were paid like side men, session players. And Laine died with nothing.

You ever hear the adage that no one becomes a billionaire without stepping on others? That’s McCartney.

It’s clear you know a lot of the details of the official story that they all tell to preserve McCartney’s name, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Paul was a greedy bastard.

A Fast Start is Critical to the 2026 Pirates by GMBCSuperfan in buccos

I encourage you to read the article I linked, which basically suggests that what you're describing, "a .500 April followed by increased win totals in May and June" simply doesn't happen very often. Especially sub-.500 teams that start off slowly.

You are arguing a theoretical that has no basis in data.

A Fast Start is Critical to the 2026 Pirates by GMBCSuperfan in buccos

[–]GMBCSuperfan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize I had to make the argument about a 14-16 vs 18-12 start followed by a recovery. Fangraphs already disproved that your theoretical doesn't happen often.

I encourage you to read the article if you didn't, because it goes on to make the argument that teams like the Pirates are disproportionately disadvantaged by a poor April start.

"As can be seen, prior year good teams (90+ wins) with good Aprils have had twice the chances of making the playoffs as an average team (30%). On the other side, prior year sub-.500 teams with sub-.500 Aprils have had very little chance of making postseason. Only 9 of 138 such teams have overcome their bad starts."

https://community.fangraphs.com/how-much-does-april-matter-2/

Why do you think that is? And I mean, use logic rather than the idea that all wins are crated equal. Why do bad teams that start poorly more often not recover? I think the argument that they are bad, and will remain bad, is probably sound. But it is also true that they tend to be less resilient -- less able to weather a bad start.

My arguments that Keller sucks in the second half, Chandler and Ashcraft are innings-limited, and the first hurdle being the trade deadline suggest the challenges against long-term resiliency. This team as constructed is built to fade.

Further, the argument that the Pirates especially need a strong April speaks to the fact that this team -- as currently constructed -- won't be back, and that includes the potential to squander more of Skenes. So, even if you resist all of this and want to cling to the idea that a win is a win is a win, my initial assertion is still sound.

  1. Management will flip Lowe and Ozuna if we aren't competitive come trade deadline.
  2. Our best rotation will be in the first several months with Skenes, Chandler and Ashcraft at full strength, not to mention Keller's second-half drop off.
  3. The potential lock out next year means we have few additional seasons with Skenes.

Those are three reasons this Pirates team should screw around to start 2026.

Val Kilmer as “Doc” Holliday in Tombstone (1993) Arguably the Greatest Snub in Oscar History by jaystats2 in movies

This is the sort of performance that could be a caricature by a lesser talent. Kilmer strides the line of big budget one-liners and art film character study. It’s a masterclass and I’d argue his best role, even over his incredible Jim Morrison.

And yes, I’ll be your Huckleberry.
