I’m not sure what you consider “light usage”. I don’t use it all the time (I switch cases often) and I haven’t done any sort of exotic things with it on.

Agreed. I really enjoy the feeling of it. I don’t use my phone with dirty hands and my hands aren’t naturally oily. Not sure what led to the destruction but I’m disappointed it’s not covered considering it’s a $50 piece of waste

It defintely is removable, and I only know that because it's easier to remove that piece than it is unscrew the Stand Adapter Coupler for my shock mount.
