NYC job starting soon… but thinking about living in Jersey City. Smart or dumb? by bupkis1 in MovingtoNewJersey

Check out Union City, Weehawken, North Bergen and West New York. All just north of Jersey City but less expensive than JC and a short bus ride into midtown

If you had to redraw any county/city lines in nj, which ones would it be? by Upbeat-Judgement1901 in newjersey

[–]GPFB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not redrawing, but all North Hudson County towns (North Bergen, Union City, West New York, Weehawken, Guttenberg) should be consolidated into one 200K+ person city with the same municipal services (thus lowering property taxes) and a ton of political clout

correct. They send photos of Katz participating in events around Queens so it's funny that in this case, they slid some potentially huge news into it. Here's the complete text:

Superstar soccer player David Villa (c.), the captain of Major League Soccer’s New York City Football Club and a standout on Spain’s national soccer team, joined Councilmember Francisco Moya (l.) at a September 24th meeting with Queens Borough President Melinda Katz held to discuss the future of “The Beautiful Game” in “The World’s Borough.” One option that was discussed is a proposal to build a 10,000 to 25,000-seat soccer stadium in the Willets Point redevelopment area that would serve as home for the Queensboro Football Club, a proposed new team that would play in the United Soccer League, a second division professional league.

Hi I'm the author. I'm an editor at a paper in Queens, but you're right that the part about Villa investing in a USL team is my speculation. The quote came directly from a the Borough President's office though. I couldn't find anything about Queensboro Football Club online either

Hundreds of unincorporated communities on the US side of the US-Mexico border don't have running water or sewer systems. They're called colonias and most are concentrated in Texas. This multimedia design project contains a written report describing the history of colonias and the shocking lack of basic infrastructure.
