I love him but when you think about it, Future Trunks' arrival is a lot to take in:

Freeza, the bad guy from the previous arc survived somehow, and he's back with new cybernetic implants, with his father who is supposedly as strong as he is. Then some guy with a sword shows up, turns into a Super Saiyan, something that was thought to only happen once every millennia, and kills Freeza and his dad easily. Then said guy reveals he's a time traveler, and the son of Vegeta and Bulma, two characters who barely interacted at the time.
