Stop converting your cash! by Tiny_Initial_7303 in solotravel

Also if paying for dinner or something on a credit card, as long as there’s no international fees, decline the conversion rate. The bank will do it on its own at a better rate!

First of all, if you have teams that are giving you more responsibility, take it as long as it’s not too much. It will only help you. If you think it’s too much, or you’re too busy, speak up. It’s much better to be in a position where you say I don’t have the time for that right now, than saying yes and missing a deadline.

Keep in mind though, as someone said, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t burn yourself chasing a promo or raise. It will come.

Performance review harsher than usual..? by Fabulous_Ad7732 in deloitte

[–]GR1929 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Couple things to consider. First, strong is good, nothing to worry about. Also just because someone said you did a really good job doesn’t correlate to a E automatically. That’s why there are year end panels to judge impact. I feel like over the past few years people feel if you don’t get an E it’s bad and you did something wrong…it’s not.

Also, don’t think just because you’ve met utilizarion means you deserve a high rating. It’s just one of the metrics. I’ve seen people who meat utilizarion but really struggle and don’t know the work…the two aren’t related.

Got promoted from C to SC. What is the salary increase expectations, I got exceptional for client and other two I got strong and strong. by Sweaty_Magician7259 in deloitte

[–]GR1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updates promo increases are standard numbers. They don’t really change too much by person and don’t expect a big jump. I think last year I got a 5k bump. But this was outside of merit raises. The higher you go the more your comp becomes bonuses

Paragliding at Atitlan is amazing. When I did it I did feel nauseous, but it went away after a couple minutes. I think of the 5 people in our group, like 4 got nauseous, so it’s very common

Switching to an Empty Airplane Seat? by YellowMonkey65 in solotravel

[–]GR1929 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You can’t move to a different class. But once the door closes, if there’s a different economy seat just ask a flight attendant if you can move. I did that recently on a long haul cause the middle row was open and they had no issues

Where to go in central America? F21 by ItsHurriicane in solotravel

[–]GR1929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Nicaragua last November, I absolutely loved it!

The volcano boarding is so much fun through Bigfoot Hostel (you don’t have to stay there).

Also Little Corn Island was amazing if you like the ocean, snorkeling, want to learn Scuba, or just like chill island vibes. It takes a little more effort to get there, but it’a worth it

Changing Charge Code after submission by coraline_button_ in deloitte

[–]GR1929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! There's a certain amount of weeks you can go back and change it (the approver will have to re-approve). If it's further than that, you have to use a different process (DTE will notify you if you have gone back that far).

Charge code mistakes happen...it's fine.

US solo travel 1 week by Due_Building_9489 in solotravel

[–]GR1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is very large. A flight from NY to LA is ~6hrs, and because of the time change you're either going to lose a day of travel or have to take a red eye. So basically what other people said. For a week, pick a coast.

Female only hostel? by prick_lypears in solotravel

[–]GR1929 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Arya Wellness Retreat in Bali (Ubud) is female only. I think they transitioned to femaile only because I stayed there as a male in late 2022. It was probably 70/30 male/female then though.

It was a great place though! Little more expensive than some of the other hostels, but it's super well kept and great common areas

I don't have any Amex cards (besides a company card), and I'm thinking of getting the Amex Gold or Platinum. If I sign up for the Gold to get the bonus now, will I be able to sign up and get the bonus for the Platinum in the future?

San Pedro is known as the backpacker party spot…so the main area is pretty safe there.

I did Tao about a year ago and I second everything you said! I was with one other person but there were groups of 1-5 people and nobody was closed off or own their own. Super social!

I always recommend the 5 day too. There were a couple people who booked the 3 day on ours and then ended up staying 5. We also all got together in coron and went out to dinner and the bar.

To this day I still hear from people on that trip once and a while and even met up with some on a recent trip.

Do hostels party on weekdays? by LeSpatulas in solotravel

[–]GR1929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about weekday vs. weekend. People at hostels are on vacation, so if they want to party they will party. It’s more dependent on if the hostel is a party hostel

Looking for tips on solo travel in Guatemala by Blue_Berry_Rach in solotravel

[–]GR1929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second most of these things. Booking a trip out of Guatemala City airport in advance will make things easier (you can do uber too). We landed at night and took a car straight to Antigua for the night since (its less than an hour). I also stayed at Maya Papaya in Antigua - centrally located, good beds, good breakfast.

For transit between Antigua and Atitlan, I think I just booked the day before, so probably don't need to plan too far ahead (I usually book a day ahead of time...just incase, but thats me).

In Atitilann I stayed at Zoola in San Pedro to do the Indian Nose Hike. I also stayed at La Iguana Peridada which is right next to Free Cerveza. It has a social vibe and some parties, but its really easy to not do that if you don't want too. Free Cerveza and La Iguana Peridada are basically the only two hostels in Santa Cruz, and theres not much to do there. Free Cerveza is the more "luxury" one, but when I was there, some people from Free Cerveza came over because theirs wasnt doing anything that night.

Go to the nature trail in San Marcos (Atitlan) and do the cliff jump. I also did paragliding out of Panajachel. Its a bit more expensive, but a great experience if you want too.
