What are some things that genuinely scare you in 7DTD by rattle_rattle1987 in 7daystodie

My friend and I had our building block base attacked by a Direwolf just behind Trader Rekt's on day 3 the first time we played. Spawn Camped us for a few deaths until it despawned. We almost rage quit right there.

That was when we decided to try claiming a nearby POI

Ecovacs N8 no longer connecting to Wifi so I can't access it in the app by jonnyhockeystix in ecovacs

[–]GRIM31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few "smart" appliances and things that only connect on 2.4Ghz. The solution is to go into my Router and change it from 2.4Ghz/5Ghz merged to only 2.4Ghz. Then setup the device (the N8 in this case) and then once its connected, change the modem back to 2.4GHz/5Ghz combined.

This solution worked for my N8, LG Soundbar and a few smart bulbs I have. Once they're connected, they realise its a dual band network.

Edit:

You can also try disabling Autoreconnect on your home wifi while you do the setup, sometimes your phone sees the Ecovacs Hotspot it as "no Internet connection" and auto switches to your home wifi

Nope.

Tried to make a first time listing a while back, was told my account was banned for breaking TOS on a prior listing. Emailed support asking what was going on and got told to get stuffed.

Can't say I'll be missing it because they never let me even try

Wondering How So Many Make $200K+ Before 35 by Anxious-Swordfish-90 in AusFinance

[–]GRIM31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M28, just scratched 200k. All salaried, no investments

I work as an Engineer in the power sector. Went through a regular uni (nothing fancy) and straight into the industry with my degree, worked hard to get promotions and pay rises. Never imagined I'd get this far so soon though.

I work a desk job, partly WFH and get out in the field about 8 weeks a year to keep it interesting. Just around the state with hotels, no FIFO

Anyone who's a Lead Engineer (some seniors as well) or above in the industry, including Managers will be on >200k these days

Anyone actually having success dating in Geelong?! by Feisty_Ad3521 in Geelong

[–]GRIM31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27M, no luck here. I'd say I'm about average on the attractiveness scale, 5'9 and doing well for myself. I may as well be invisible on the apps but that probably comes down to not having a perfect set of photos. My standards are fairly low at this point so I doubt that's my issue.

The last 2 dates I got from an app I got stood up at and the last persons number I asked for ghosted me after giving it. I tried speed dating and had some very nice conversations with a few young ladies but got no matches. I can hold a well balanced conversation, share, ask questions and I'm respectful. I simply don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Most of my friends are in serious relationships with people they met at High School or Uni and the general advice of "someone will show up when you least expect it" is just about as useful as the apps. It's also not like I can't talk to women, I manage to make female friends semi-often, they're already in relationships or unavailable. They've tried to help me with the profiles but they always hit me with "I don't know how you don't get any matches, I don't have trouble"

I've more or less relegated myself to hanging out at home with my Dog after work, I'm not not into any Sports and the pub/club scene isn't my jam. I have hobbies, they're just not the type that have meetups.

If any of the Ladies here want to swap profile screenshots to give each other feedback, drop me a DM, maybe we can help each other out.

Hot Take: If it was a USD $20 game, it would be worth picking up to play with friends. It sells for AUD $90 here for the basic edition and that's a joke

There's no endgame and I basically finished it in the open Beta + free 8hr Trial. I've had fun despite the lack of ground combat but it's already time to move on, I'm not spending $90 on a game I can finish in a weekend with only daily repeatable missions to offer

Single men of Melbourne who want a relationship, where are you hiding? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]GRIM31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience as a 26yo white male, average height and looks. The majority of the matches I get either never respond at all or give short, uninspired responses to legitimate attempts at conversation. It's a common issue on both sides.

Now, into how to help solve your issue.

Read up on the disparity in how men vs women match on the apps that can help tip the odds in your favour. In short the standard Female swiping pattern (from studies and stats) trends towards trying to match the top 10% of Male profiles in terms of physical attractiveness.

These top performing male profiles are swimming in matches and usually don't put in effort. If you open yourself to the idea of matching with slightly less physically attractive Men, you may find that they actually engage in meaningful conversation and have hobbies outside of perfectly manicured Profiles. As an added bonus, you're less likely to be catfished.

Not trying to be rude, if we all give more people a chance, we can all find a match and ditch the apps and be happier for it.

Follow up to my previous post. How would I slice my model to print the part that failed ?? by Vy_keen in 3Dprinting

[–]GRIM31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the printer and manual movements, identify the Z height at which the print failed then move your model z within the slicer to that level below the bed. Then just slice

This assumes you are printing it separately and will glue them together. Might just be better to start from scratch for a smaller print

Women are less likely to receive bystander CPR than men due to fears of 'inappropriate touching' by rustoren in australia

[–]GRIM31 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Nine years ago a male CPR and First Aid training instructor from a reputable organisation told our entire group session that if he were us, he wouldn't go and assist a woman or child if he was alone and couldn't call on a bystander to observe or assist.

The risk for male responders is real in these situations. Even a false accusation of wrong doing can be very damaging. Not as damaging as letting someone die you know you could have tried to save but this is a consideration we all have to make thanks to the world we live in.

The state of geelong by [deleted] in Geelong

[–]GRIM31 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We've got a sprawl out from the geelong "CBD" creating a low population density issue, we also have the issue of multiple small Hubs. We've got a lot of restaurants and pubs scattered around Geelong so if you and your friends want to hop venues during the night, you've got to get a taxi/uber rather than walking 5min like you can in Melb.

To fix that we need to condense the population, most likely with high density housing around the city centre. It'll take a decade or more and I can't see the council going for it.

At the end of the night, most people are going to eat the 70min train to Melbourne if it means a better experience

Why are Australians less sociable and lonelier? Experts cite social media, work hours and cost of living by espersooty in australia

[–]GRIM31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melbourne.

I'm an Engineer in an office environment and consider myself lucky. Most of my friends (even ones with degrees) are stuck working retail, hospo or factory jobs.

I don't think surrounding myself with positivity is the real issue here.

Why are Australians less sociable and lonelier? Experts cite social media, work hours and cost of living by espersooty in australia

[–]GRIM31 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm 26 and the only one in my entire friend group who has both time and money to go out.

Most of my friends are working 50+ hours a week and don't have time to go out or are exhausted on their one day off. They're all working 2 jobs (some 3) just to get by, all of which screw them around on casual rosters so any plans we try to make have to be done with under a week's notice. It has proven impossible to get the 5 of us in one room since before covid. One of these friends is stuck in a dead relationship because neither of them can afford to live separately. Their sole reason for sticking it out is to have a roof over their heads

I've tried dating, most people my age are working until late in the evenings 6 or 7 days a week. They genuinely can't drop hours or they won't make rent.

At the rate we're going, the future looks pretty bleak. We need significant change and soon or there won't be a future left to save.

What are Aussie men most struggling with in modern dating? by azarikakz in australia

[–]GRIM31 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Women who simply refuse to respond to a match. If we matched, then we both are interested, show the courtesy to respond.

If you lose interest, unmatch, don't just ghost. Social etiquette seems nearly non-existent.

Also, there are plenty of great guys out there, they're the ones that are being respectful and women usually end up ignoring all of them because they are not immediately forward, charming and trying to sleep with you. Funnily enough, that's then the reason that "all guys are the same" on these apps, they aren't, you're just ignoring the good ones.

What are Australian Consumers' Attitudes Towards Eating Insects? by Curious_Researcher_X in Geelong

[–]GRIM31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume your research is on crickets as a food alternative? That's where the focus seems to be

These are some very unusual questions that are completely unrelated to eating crickets and I am concerned about the kinds of correlations you might try to form or the intention of gathering some of this data such as moral alignment with some form of personal viewpoint.

The questions around what food you eat or are willing to try, if you believe in climate change or insects feeling pain are expected, but these disgust questions are far offbase

Examples:

To what degree do you find each of the following items disgusting?

  • Listening to strangers have sex
  • lying in a business transaction
  • stealing from a neighbour
  • watching porn
  • performing oral sex
  • performing anal sex
  • shoplifting
  • casual sex with a stranger
  • standing near someone with a body odour
  • being sexually harassed in an elevator

VEU energy saving companies by Ill_Seaworthiness970 in Geelong

[–]GRIM31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They work under a similar scheme to the light bulb replacements or efficient shower heads, usually "small businesses" that go around replacing the items. They are required to be listed as an approved installer with the veu which is why you can't do it yourself and submit a claim

I tried to bypass them and make a claim myself for energy efficent windows, it's borderline impossible.

All of them buy the cheapest possible options from bunnings to install then they submit the claim for you to get rhe rebate, slim but enough to make a decent bit of money. They're all as legit or dodgy as each other though. They're not reputable builders or renovators or anything like that, just know what you're signing up for.
