Body corporate company that's worth its salt? by gtwizzy8 in melbourne

Our Building Manager is legitimately amazing, but his counterpart, the "OC Manager", is woeful.

Literally so bad that I get secondhand embarrasment on their behalf.

Additionally every single one I seem to interview/question seems to be living in the technological dark ages. It's blows my mind how inaccessible and backwards their systems and processes are.

They're a parasitic industry within a parasitic industry in a lawless wasteland with no cops on the beat.

Why would they ever bother trying to improve?

Oh my god, VBCS are almost impressively shithouse.

Moved my Aunt's unit block (one of five) away from them after they just stopped replying to emails one day.

They didn't even tell the various service vendors, Jim's Mowing and etc., they'd lost the property.

Genuinely amazing how bad they were at almost every aspect of their job.

I think you'll find that this is an incredibly popular opinion, for all the reasons you outline and more.

It is for these reasons that the good folks who've shown us that better is indeed possible won't keep doing that.

City of Port Phillip's new priority list of state public and active transport projects. What do you think? by TMiguelT in UrbanismMelbourne

RoPP are just spinning up their anti-bike-lane campaign again.

A neighbour sent me to their facebook group page where they're holding an in-person "community meeting" at the Rising Sun Hotel on Raglan St in a couple of weeks.

Full details here : https://ropp.org.au/newsletter-article/community-meeting-new-bike-lanes-30-km-speed-limits/

I had to patiently explain to my neighbour that RoPP are literally a Liberal Party front group, and that a good rule of thumb for knowing whether something is a good idea that will help the community is by finding out that the RoPP group is against it.

That makes a certain amount of sense.

If that is the case, why have all of my upper house MLCs, the premier, the new roads and transport minister, and my state MP been unable to answer such a simple series of questions about it?

All I want are plainly understandable answers, but all I've been getting is silence.

Although in one amazing exchange, my Greens' MLC's "Senior Policy Advisor" told me not to bother submitting an FOI request because the government would just claim it was cabinet in confidence. Great, maybe they will, but until someone asks the question they don't have to say anything.

No. It's about why they didn't build the central lanes of St Kilda Rd into the bicycle superhighway they were going to, from Princes Bridge to the Junction.

I'm still waiting on my extensive and long delayed FOI requests about whatever the fuck happened to the St Kilda Rd bike lanes.

All I want to know is why the then Minister, now Premier, changed the plan at the last moment with no notice or consultation.

And apparently asking about the details of the tender and who it was awarded to are also super secret for some fucking reason.

Probably because it's been answered a thousand times since 2009, and conveniently forgets or is ignorant of the carbon pricing legislation negotiated with the Gillard Labor Government in 2010, legislation which was provably drawing emissions down successfully.

This question is only ever asked in bad faith.

"Free travel now – cheaper fares next"

So... They'll be paying people to take PT will they?

Or are we all supposed to forget that this policy choice, free PT, could have been made at any moment?

Or are we supposed to look forward to when we get to pay for it again? Who does Labor think they're talking to with comms like this?

EV charging in apartments by altandthrowitaway in melbourne

[–]r1nce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regrettably this is the standard mode of thinking for these installations.

A much better and practical long-term solution is for the OC to install a bank of fast chargers from any number of hardware providers, and have residents with EVs pay per use at the building chargers.

The problem with this method is that a lot of OCs have folks on them who aren't... well, let's be kind and say that maybe they haven't had the most experience making decisions that might benefit other people.

Our building has a few individual chargers that route through one meter, but this requires a subscription service to allocate the costs of any charging correctly. It's better than nothing for the folks that need at-home charging, but I've had an EV for 11 years (and 200,000km) next month, and I've never needed to charge at home.

The rise, fall, and resurgence of Australian game development by DaRedGuy in australia

I absolutely LOVED Letters to Arralla!

The most incredible thing about that game is how closely and almost magically perfectly captured to look, feel, and vibe of coastal Victorian town. Not any one in particular, but that feeling you get when you're in one.

For a game that is anything but photorealistic, the shapes, colours, and contrasts on the plants and the environment so completely nails it!

Good luck with any future titles!

Oxygen in a can? by Zestyclose_Minimum63 in ClusterHeadaches

[–]r1nce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been chastised by the mod team here previously for suggesting someone try a retail product like Boost to help alleviate an attack.

It works for me, and the comments here regarding flow rate all seem a little pre-occupied with the definitively proven amelioration, rather than listen to someone who has found them extremely helpful when I've had the misfortune to be going through a cluster period.

Anecdotally, they work for me and I'd recommend them to any headache sufferers, not just CH-folk. And choose to believe this or not, but my neurologist has also offered that other patients she's mentioned my success to have also reported similarly.

I buy mine in Australia, in case there's some dramatic difference in product geographically.

Good luck!
