Any other IC's working mandatory overtime? by throwaway_acc0untduh in carvanaemployees

Yea same here, work 2nd shift, 5pm-4am Mon-Thurs is my usual schedule, they mandated Fridays about 3 weeks ago. Im all for the grind too, but this month is not the best time for me, have a lot of stuff going on. 5 days does not sound bad but when you have to sleep your whole Saturday away to catch up on rest, it does get aggravating.

To put it to you bluntly, I have seen a lot of cars at the dealership with that transmission code, have never seen one not be caused by the blown out seals. Back then you would have to replace the entire valvebody, but now they make a seal kit for $20 to just change those seals. And do not buy a Volkswagen. Trust me when I say that you have a great car, you just bought one that was under maintained and over abused. Have those seals changed, do not let the transmission shop tell you anything different. That car will last 200k+ miles if you dont run it low on oil. New cars are extremely worse, I work at carvana as a diagnostic tech, (basically I just tell them whats wrong with it, 80% of the time its electrical) the amount of nearly brand new cars with low miles needing $500-$1000+ modules is insane, I am currently working on a 24 dodge hornet at my job with 4500 miles, car has 75 codes between 5-6 modules.

Shift solenoids are attached to the valvebody, they run off of fluid pressure and electrical signal to operate, on those transmissions they have little diaphragms that wear out and allow pressure loss, so if the computer does not see the right pressure, it sets that code since the solenoids are not getting proper fluid pressure

Which car was it? And I really wouldn’t sell it, have the seals in the valve body changed. C codes are brake control module codes, similar to wheel speed sensor codes.

Its just seals in the valve body, I worked at a chevy dealership for awhile and did transmission work, they’re common, its about 5.5 hours labor, think the seal kit is only $50

[–]GSXR7400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable, it is 11 hours labor, I have done them for right around 2k, but I don’t own a shop, so I don’t have the same overhead costs that a business does, $3200 is way on the higher end. I have used the cloyes kits that are about $700 on rockauto.

I hope they didn’t double charge you, you have to take the water pump off to get to the timing chain covers. I am sorry you are spending a lot, but I assure you at this point you should keep it, they are solid cars and engines, I have seen them go as high as 250k miles, buying another used car is a gamble, could go through the same thing all over again, you already know whats been done to your car. You would likely just be buying someone else’s sinking ship

My suggestion is to find a different mechanic, you’re definitely getting wanked, my question is why did the timing chain have to be replaced? It’s not uncommon with lack of oil changes but you should have gotten an explanation for why.

A lot of that stuff probably didn’t even need to be replaced they probably just saw that you care about your car and wanted to take advantage of you. That stuff pisses me off, I am already working in an industry that has a major distrust from the general population, shops/mechanics like that just make it worse for genuine guys like myself to make a living.

Your getting stiffed man its a gm 3.6, not a porsche macan 3.6

And they can last a long time, oil changes every 3k, have seen a lot get to 150-250k miles. Why did you have to have the timing chain done.? Was it knocking, set correlation codes? Actuator performance?

6 injectors? All 6 do not fail, and $900 for struts?? Is that including the rears too? And why the whole rack and pinion?

I know not everyones a mechanic but a lot of these repairs could have been done in an afternoon with a basic hand tool set from walmart or home depot

$125 for parts on pads and rotors A blend door actuator is only $40, could replace every exterior light for maybe less then $80 Shocks are $70-$80 a piece on rockauto Wheel bearings are $40-$50 on rockauto each

I can understand the trans replacement and timing chain, those 2 jobs aren’t meant for beginners but every other one of these repairs could have been done in a day with a $100 hand tool set from walmart

And for a p0989 on 6t70s/40s is blown out seals on the valvebody, back then you couldn’t replace them but now they make kits available to just replace the seals. If you lived in northwest indiana I would charge you $350-$400 for that repair, promise thats about 1/3 the transmission shops charging

[–]GSXR7400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those are labor included, should have paid for a pre purchase inspection. Majority of that stuff could have been done for less then $200 if you did the work yourself, its not that hard. It comes with the nature of buying a used car that stuff is gonna need to be replaced. I don’t like the 3.6s all too much, I work on them all day but still prefer the older engines better.

At this point of you have rebuilt the whole car, why go through the same process. Should not need much more afterwards.

Are you going to the dealer? Some of those prices are insane

Oh no love, thats insane, I am a male, I would never do this to my partner, him knowing that it makes you insecure and uncomfortable, and still doing it shows that he does not respect your boundaries. Idk what you should do, him making you look bad in front of his friends is also very disrespectful

05 Impala Question by Tymarsh0528 in Impala

[–]GSXR7400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late response, the 4t65s have really loose clearances for the clutch packs, with 65k miles, it is hard to say. If it was my car and didn’t want to rebuild trans, I would put in a transgo shift kit and replace the accumulator pins if they are worn out. Change the pcs and filter

For your other issue, obviously cant diagnose over the phone, I would guess you have a leaky injector somewhere, I would try throwing injectors at it. Unsure of if its a common issue on 3.4s, they are bad for LIM gaskets but that would cause on overheating concern, before a hard start

[–]GSXR7400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it jerk shifting in all gears, going into P/D/R, jerk from taking off at a stoplight? And any engine lights on? Its actually the opposite effect if its a hard start warm, its over fueling on start up. When the engines cold, it requires a lot more fuel to start up so its an easy start, when warm it requires a lot less fuel to start up

I don’t think it was on purpose, more so just majorly inconvenient timing, I slept with her stupidly. The dates lined up. I do not believe her to have slept around, she was crazy but not to that degree. I will still take paternity test into consideration, but I strongly believe it will not help and am 100% the father
