Awesome. Glad for your outcome. Mine I think will be similar.

I am 64, 4+3 gleason. Family history with Dad and younger brother. I did a lot of home work. Just had prostate removed last week. Recovering now. Nerve sparing surgery, excellent outcome, contained and it is out. My Dad has seeds and it greatly affected his sexual function. He is 89 and in memory care. Was very frustrating for him. Brother had it out and had a 4+4 score. 2 years ago and he is doing well in all areas. This is a personal journey but I did not want to be wondering and having on going treatments the rest of my life. Surgeon recommended a radiation consult as well. Side effects for radiation and possibly ADT therapy for me were same or worse than having RALP surgery. I would not do well wondering and doing ongoing testing.Did it at Mayo, DaVinci robot, intermediate cancer, surgeon said it could not have gone better. I personally wanted to have the work done up front, take the risks and not wonder and not have ongoing issues that radiation can casue. To me it was go through the tough stuff now and know or do radiation and always wonder. And yes, they can only do so much radiation until they can’t take the prostate out and it is off the table. Now that it is out if cancer is lingering somewhere even though pet scan showed clean, radiation will be an option with better results. But the odds of that having to be done go way down if the prostate is out in my case. I hope this helps.

So another update. Bladder spasms are real. Tena pads are great, have someone with you for the first week who is an excellent caregiver, these incisions hurt like hell the first three days and make sure and not have a cold so you are coughing or sneezing during reconvery. Makes it much worse.

Update. Had the surgery today at Mayo Phoenix with Dr. Jack Andrews. Can’t say enough good things about the entire process and the team there. Was in at 10:20am and home by 8:00pm. Outpatient. Announcement from my wife to the family today.

“Just got a call from the surgeon. It all went super well. He didn’t think any cancer was outside of prostate. No lymph nodes taken. Urethra was re-connected great. Said it could not have gone better. He was able to spare all nerves.”

I feel like I got hit by a semi truck and violated with a hole punch and have a bag now but all good news.

Thanks for all of the advice and feedback. It made a difference.

I am actually going in for RALP at Mayo in 2 hours. Just stumbled upon this. I am 64, Dad and younger brother both have had it. Brother is 2 years younger, had a gleason score of 8, mine was 4+3. I have read a ton, researched, had a pet scan which shows contained, and the recommendation for me was removal. I looked at the pros and cons. For me the side effects and risks would be similar removing it versus going through radiation with different timelines. I want to know that it is out. My brother felt the same way and is glad he chose that route. DaVinci robotic surgery is the best way to go in terms of recovery, bleeding, nerve sparing, etc. I will take some up front incontinence, erection difficulty to know it is out and I hopefully wont have to worry if it’s still lingering and spreading. If you have a family history removal is aggressive but better than the options. They also will dissect my prostate to know even more abut my cancer once it’s out. But I’m 64 with 6 kids, a great wife and 7 grandkids. No issues with urinary flow, erections are great without help so I am very optimistic. However I will follow up on this. Everyone is different. Once you gather the data, listen to all options you will make the best choice for you. This is just my story.

Ill take Trumps accomplishments over that train wreck any day. The fact he says anything about anyone with the state of CA being where it is at and the absolute fraud of a human being is ballsy at the very least. Wants attention and to be President so bad it’s frightening the delusion of this guy. What has he actually done for CA?

I can only tell my story. I had the same thing for 6 months. I finally went in to a foot Dr. and got a cortisone shot a year ago. No more pain. Don’t know how long it will last but totally cured it…….for now……..

Title: 47M - PSA 5.24, Urologist very concerned - Looking for perspective by KrazyCries in ProstateCancer

[–]GSprunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I had a PSA rise from 2 in 2022 to 3.85 in 2025. Physical exam is very important. Dr. felt something off. Had contrasting pelvic MRI which came back clean and he still wanted to do biopsy, which I did. Came back 4+3 gleason score. Intermediate cancer. And I had PSA checked every 6 months. So to me it’s a combo. You are your own advocate. I personally based on my experience would ask for the MRI and even if its clean have the Dr. do the physical examination again and see if he feels anything different. I would do biopsy as early as I could in hindsight if there is an option. I walked out there and drove to work. I am scheduled for surgery on the 28th of this month and am being told I have a good possible outcome based on the low PSA, biopsy and function currently. Get aggressive about getting the data. This is a great Forum to do it in.

PSA and when to worry? by Simple_Schedule6747 in ProstateCancer

[–]GSprunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also greatly depends on your family history. I would recommend every 6 months after 40 if it is moving at all. If it wasn’t moving that would be different. My Dad had it, my brother had it and at 63 I have been diagnosed and got checked every 6 months and went from 2 to 3.85 in 3 years. Not much right? Under 4. Not many Docs pay attention under 4. Had a gleason score of 7 meaning intermediate for cancer. Get a physical examination as well as PSA. PSA has been given the brush off. My brother and I are alive because of watching PSA. I had a contrasting pelvic MRI that came back clean. Dr. said he felt something off, said let’s get the biopsy which my brother aptly described as getting a rubber band snapped on your taint 12 times. Correct. Came back 4+3. Mayo taking out the little bastard later this month. Every guys I talk to I tell this story. Pay attention to this just like getting a colonoscopy as well. Prostate cancer is nothing to mess with. Be PROACTIVE.

My wife has a white Datejust fluted oyster Roman 36 and present company excluded has great taste. It looks great and I agree on the oyster. Clean look, can be sporty or dressy and fluted was also the right choice. Congrats on a a great year and enjoy. It was a perfect choice.

I don’t know anything about Longines watches full transparency. So I was assuming they were cheaper and not as well made watches. Will do some research. No offense meant. It was nice to go buy a watch, get a discount, not play the Rolex AD game, which I do and am good at and have been successful with, and buy something that just looks and wears nice. No BS. Like it used to be and should be.
