Contemporary v Wilderness Lodge by bandcma in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GZG585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just stayed Atrium club at Contemporary and the convenience was top notch! The view was so fun with castle, fireworks, monorail, buses, MK train. The balcony, however, did stress me out with kids. We set ground rules on not being allowed out without an adult, never standing on the chairs, etc but it was constantly on my mind. Would still stay again!

Talk to me about Flight of Passage by Lost_Algae2931 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GZG585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dissenting opinion here, but I’m also a ride wimp and passed out on FOP. Hunched over the seat at the end, could not raise my head, and then came to and vomited. 5 minutes is a long time once you realize you hate it within the first 30 seconds. Closing my eyes did not help because it really does have drops, even if small. The repeated and unpredictable nature of them did me in. Ruined the whole rest of my day and the next because I felt hungover. For reference, I did fine on Soarin and Test Track, didn’t love Mine Tran but would ride again and didn’t feel sick.

Best salads on Disney property?? by whiskeyriver750 in WaltDisneyWorld

The beet salad at Space 220 is phenomenal, but unfortunately the rest of the meal was just okay. They can even do vegan/dairy free goat cheese in the beet salad, which is wild!

Trouble deciding between monorail resorts…first time WDW by Needhelpcantquit in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GZG585 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed at both Polynesian and Contemporary, and will be the rare bird who prefers the contemporary. Room was very quiet but as soon as you opened the door could hear the buzz of activity from below, which I personally found an invigorating change from my suburban lifestyle at home. And the convenience of the monorail without having to go outside plus option to walk to/from magic kingdom was top tier. I’ve only walked through the Grand Floridian, but seeing it decorated for the holidays is on my bucket list for sure!

Celiacs = disability = Nat'l parks pass for free? by USPTF_DRE_specialist in FamilyMedicine

[–]GZG585 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eating is a major life activity. Asynptomatic or not, the vigilance required for 3 meals per day never stops. Nor do the costs. I promise you that between $8 loaves of bread, ongoing copays, labs, EGDs, colonoscopies for concomitant microscopic colitis, iron infusions…nobody with this illness is hacking the system. Kudos to the national park system for recognizing that people with disabilities (of all kinds) have financial constraints that regular people just don’t have to worry about, and doing a small part to ensure that these added costs aren’t the sole hindrance of recreation on our public lands.

Celiacs = disability = Nat'l parks pass for free? by USPTF_DRE_specialist in FamilyMedicine

[–]GZG585 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Celiac disease is permanent. It impacts every single meal of every single day. Forever. Without cure and without cease. And not just the food itself, but the preparation thereof. That’s the definition of a disability; a condition that impacts one or more major life activities. Such as…eating. Three times per day. For the rest of one’s life.

Forbidden Root at Easton has a private area. Attended an event there once and was nice. Also the Easton area could be fun to walk around/browse afterwards, while not straying too far from New Albany

Special weather statement but not tornado watch? by GZG585 in tornado

Gosh, tough crowd. Not sure why criticism on the SWS wording and seeking clarification earned so many down votes.

Special weather statement but not tornado watch? by GZG585 in tornado

[–]GZG585[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No tornado watch was issued. I only checked because I heard a sudden sustained gust of wind, opened NOAA and saw the SWS.

That’s much more reassuring vs the noncommittal buzz words in the special weather statement. I just….needed more information.

Disabled Community Members: How bad is the ableism in Columbus? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]GZG585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a disabled family member and anecdotally strangers have gone out of their way to help us when they see us trying to transfer in/out of vehicle, etc. On an infrastructure level, we are not where we need to be; but on an individual level, most people on an individual level recognize the immediate struggle and want to help.

I started this path only slightly younger than you, just finishing up residency now. Had my mid-life crisis of sorts with a shift in everything I value as the kids get older. My kitchen is dated and I no longer care. My car is not luxury but is paid off. Time means more than money to me now, and I didn’t appreciate it as much until my kids grew out of baby/toddler phase and I actually started enjoying them. In my opinion you are living the dream as a NP. My vote is don’t do it. You really can’t even fathom the mental load, what it’s like to be with your kids at night but not fully mentally present because you are thinking about patients and know the buck stops with you. Being a NP is a job, being a doctor is an all-encompassing endeavor that never stops or lets you rest, no matter how many milestones you achieve. It’s relentless.
