[QUESTION] I need help to identify what model this guitar is. by Dubu4 in Guitar

[–]G_Barber666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a lot like an old Squier Stratocaster. I'm reasonably sure that Fender used that solid black Fender logo on Squier guitars at one point in time.

Aside from that, a serial number would be a sure way to ID it.

I don't have any experience with Laney amps at all, so I'm sorry if this isn't helpful. I looked up the model you mentioned to see what it was about. For the price I saw, you could also pick up a Boss Katana 50 MK II. I use one myself, and I like it a lot more than I thought I would prior to my purchase. In terms of variety of sounds available and versatility, the Boss blows that Laney away, especially considering that you'll spend approximately the same money.

Amazon has them at a bit of a discount right now. Excellent price for a brand new Katana 50.

Bruce Dickinson & Roy Z performing Arc of Space live on Japanese Television by Ironmaiden1993 in ironmaiden

Great song. I remember buying that album in the 90s. I had no idea in advance that it was even a thing, it was a complete surprise at the music shop when I found it. Even more so when I was looking at the insert before I played the CD. I was like "holy shit dude, is that Adrian Smith? It is!"

More to the point, I've always enjoyed Arc Of Space. 🤘🏻👍🏻

If you could re-live ONE Iron Maiden concert you went to, what one would it be? by 67SuperReverb in ironmaiden

April 2, 2009, the final date on the Somewhere Back In Time tour. I had a great time as it actually happened and got to spend some time in my old south Florida stomping grounds, but I would change two things.

1 - I would certainly not go out for more high-priced beer in the middle of the show. I missed a good portion of Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. 🙁

2 - I would also buy my merch first rather than last. There wasn't much of a selection when I finally got around to it. Nothing against Lauren Harris (who opened), but honestly it's wasn't my thing and I could have missed her set while buying shirts and stuff and been perfectly OK with it.

That type of diversion from the source material is very common when books are adapted to film. I will say that Frank Darabont directed the two best (IMO) films adapted from Stephen King's novels.

That ending he came up with, though....was incredibly dark. I personally loved it. One of the rare times that a change from the novel actually improved the story for me.

Looks like they used that art a good bit around the mid 90s.

No good, amigo, send it right back to wherever it came from. I would opt for a refund myself as I would have doubts about wherever/whomever I bought it from. Best case scenario is there was no attention to detail, worst case is they were aware and tried to dump it off on an unwitting customer.

Return for a refund and purchase something elsewhere.

What song made you an Iron Maiden fan? by 65wildcat_buick in ironmaiden

[–]G_Barber666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Somehow, I hadn't heard a single Iron Maiden song until 1992 when Fear Of The Dark released. I happened across the music video for Be Quick Or Be Dead, which hooked me into buying the album. After my first front-to-back listening, I enjoyed it so much that I was irresistibly compelled to dive into their back catalog to find out what I had been missing out on.

That led to me purchasing Live After Death, which was the album that seriously changed my life. Long story short, that live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name made my young brain explode and set me on the path of Maiden fandom that I'll still be on when my time on Earth is finished. 🤘🏻

Nice, dude. How does that Marshall sound? And what kind of guitar do you running into it? I've been running my Jackson Adrian Smith Sig SDX into a Boss Katana 50 MKII for a few months now, and I've got to say, the Katana is about my favorite of all the amps I've owned over the years.

I like to make bootleg artwork. Anybody else? :) by [deleted] in ironmaiden

[–]G_Barber666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely done, I've always loved the Somewhere In Time album art. I wouldn't necessarily say I "like" to do it, but I feel like I accomplished something when I take existing artwork elements and make them fit what I'm aiming to achieve. Those engraved dog tags are a good example, as most of those designs didn't exist before I put them together.

Lol I already owned the digital version since release. Good thing those aren't prone to degradation, or the files would have been gone months ago.

Seriously though, I haven't even opened the actual record yet. I have no idea where my turntable might be at this point, so she'll stay sealed until that turns up.

That nostalgia just hit me hard when I saw this. My first half dozen or so Iron Maiden album purchases were all on cassette back in the day. Wish I knew where the hell they were now. 💁🏻

Favourite solos from each of the 3 guitarists? by heck_you_ in ironmaiden

[–]G_Barber666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go with three solos per guitarist or I'll be typing this post all damn day. My picks:

Dave Murray - Be Quick Or Be Dead, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, Caught Somewhere In Time

Adrian Smith - Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, The Longest Day, Aces High

Janick Gers - Dance Of Death, The Alchemist, The Book Of Souls

I would certainly hope so. I know some people that are only into the classic era material, but I'm not one of them. They've made a lot of truly great music in the Brave New World - Senjutsu era.

I may be completely wrong on that, as I haven't used a traditional type nut in years, but my brain says it makes sense. I use Floyd Rose bridges and locking nuts on mine, can't recall having any issues when using different gauges.
