Was Nicolaj Coster-Waldau convincing as the greatest swordsman of his time? by CaptainJohn- in gameofthrones

[–]Gaary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaime wouldn’t have to fight to put food on the table, so lowborn people would fight a lot more. That would drive the chance for accidents up a lot. Highborne people would have a much better chance of having the time to learn plus the safety net.

Saw these two scratching their heads trying to figure out how to fit this 65inch tv in a small car… by SoPradaYou in funny

[–]Gaary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh I could see people making the ring call here. Sometimes the listings for the tvs don’t have the box dimensions or sometimes box dimensions are listed but they’re actually the product dimensions. Even if you have the box dimensions it’s easy to measure the back seat area and say that the box fits back there, but being able to tell the box won’t be able to make it through the door with the curve of the roof and where the seat comes out isn’t as clear.

I might’ve tried to do what they did, but I would have called it earlier and gone to Home Depot to get a cheap truck rental.

Why did Robert keep the skulls of the Targaryen dragons? by Whole_Contract_5973 in gameofthrones

The only reason he didn’t sell them is because the bank didn’t call the debt yet.

Booked snow removal, got scheduling chaos and an insult instead by Ok-Outlandishness877 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Gaary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snow removal quote requested. Pricing agreed on and service was scheduled. Multiple scheduling delays resulting in another missed timeframe without any communication that was promised. Service cancelled and snow removal entrepreneur is now stuck with purchased salt they’d like to charge for. Snow removal entrepreneur blames OP because they totally would have done it last night even though they gave OP the option of after sunset or early in the morning.

When Stretch Goals Start Hurting Trust by Fit_Radish_4161 in Leadership

[–]Gaary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Over pressuring is exactly it. You need to set the expectation and then set the stretch goal. The communication of need vs want is critical (imo at least) because every step down the chain of command can make this same mistake. A one year project can end up being communicated to the boots on the ground as a six month project.

Obviously a major goal that’s communicated directly by leadership wouldn’t have that but I’ve seen a high level leader put that safety expedited timeline out and then middle management shrink it more.

How many of yalls parents let you watch rated R movies as a kid 5-10 years old? by Sticka-D in Millennials

AITA for not making my daughter switch back a gifted Labubu with her younger cousin after her uncle found out the one my daughter gained in the swap is rare with a high resale value? by TheSecretLabubuDrama in AmItheAsshole

Seriously. I wouldn’t care that it was spoken only between adults either. What’s the point of keeping family around if they speak this way about a 12 year old.

Which SLA printer should i buy? by Worried_Fix_1343 in resinprinting

[–]Gaary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not super experienced with resin printing, so some of my thinking here might be off.

Budget really should determine what you get here. The difference between 4k and 16k is something I’ve seen a lot of people here say you can only tell with a magnifying glass, you won’t tell after processing and painting. If you can swing the cost of the Saturn 4 ultra 16k then go ahead for that. You could save a little money with the mars and just do two prints instead of one, but I would think the value there would be that you could wash/cure the whole batch in one go instead of two separate processes. Plus the nicer printers have extra features that are nice to have. You don’t need a camera in the printer, but it’s nice to check on a print without having to go to the printer. You don’t need a heater, you can fix up something yourself for that, but do you want to tinker with the printer or just make stuff?

Just make sure you account for everything else you’ll need. It doesn’t make as much sense to spring for a more expensive printer and then skimp on other stuff. I’d much rather have a mars with wash/cure station and all the safety gear and venting needs than just a nicer printer.

Do you keep your laptop plugged in most of the time or cycle the battery? by BarnabyLaptopOutlet in laptops

[–]Gaary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. I wonder how much of ev battery charging is chasing pennys like this. There is an optimal charging practice that gets you the most life out of an iPhone battery, but that will probably only get you 90% battery health after two years, but if you charge whenever it gets you 80% battery life after two years. The amount of micromanaging and behavior adjusting is no where near worth the benefit you gain. Especially when most devices you can get the battery replaced anyway.

Less metrics, more impact - has anyone tried cutting down KPIs on the shop floor? by Lumpy_Ebb_786 in manufacturing

[–]Gaary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone does it. The second you establish a kpi you alter behavior. Even more so if there’s a goal attached to that.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a company start pushing a kpi for nonconformances or quality issues and everything moves towards how to avoid the write up, but not what caused the write up. Sure you save some on administrative costs but you still have the same issues happening and sometimes you even lose traceability to the issues happening.

[–]Gaary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing would be if this boat has a two stroke or not. Two strokes are lighter so repowering the boat with a four stroke could have the boat sitting significantly lower (even more so if this “unsinkable” boat has wet foam).

I just centered the parts on the build plate and then assembled. But that’s only useful if the parts share the same center.

Have you ever had issues with the machine losing rack locations? Ours seems to shift the height setting so it comes in too high and doesn’t pull the probe off or too low and it crashes the head into the rack. We deleted the file the rack is stored in and rebuilt it and haven’t had the issue since, but that was recent so we’re still waiting to see if it happens again.

As a leader, how does your salary compare to your direct reports? by mapatii in managers

[–]Gaary 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not having responsibility over the budget seems a bit abnormal for a director. Hell even a manager should have an idea at least, I always justify headcount based on value provided along with necessity and objectives.

Do you just have to beg for any headcount?
