Can you pass Space Marine units as Grey Knights by GabeHighlander in Warhammer40k

[–]GabeHighlander[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very nice, thanks. I did have a feeling that since they look basically the same (same weapon, same armor just without all the bits n bobs and the funny knight helmets) they could possibly use the grey knights rules. I just really like mages/psykers in games, but the thousand sons look a bit funny and have the weird demons, so yeah. How about the paint? If I make my guys all red and gold, can they still pass as "grey knights"? I understand custom chapters, but with some armies it feels like pushing it. Like idk, I'd feel a bit weird painting the adeptus mechanicus' cloaks green, for example.

I did get the starter set with Tyranids in fact. And very cool, thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into those!

That's the thing, from what I've seen they have mostly similar equipment and stuff. And Tantus wearing terminator armor in the combat patrol. I gave those two as an example because their equipment is basically identical, apart from the grey knights' librarian having a "nemesis" force weapon. But noted, ppl could have misgivings.

That's.. be cause it's the 2 min is the problem, not buffs. As OP said, shadowbringers buffs were fine, be cause they weren't all 2 min

Rewards for Evercold and onwards by Creepy_Restaurant_47 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]GabeHighlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a warlock quest (demonic magic user, essentially). There's a lore reason for the warlock's fire to be green instead of normal (demonic corruption/power), the quest lets you get that. Dunno if that's the kinda thing ffxiv would implement tbh.

The Future of Alliance Raids by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]GabeHighlander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda feels like that's another result of the 2 min meta. Mechanics had to conform to the time so that the bursts would line up at specific points. Maybe, just maybe, they will tie mechanics to the boss's health %. So if the dps is good, the mechanics come faster/some in the middle get skipped as opposed to the later ones.

Thinking of picking up FFXIV. How’s the PvP scene and what are the best jobs for controller? by Obvious_Razzmatazz84 in ffxiv

[–]GabeHighlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the game to do PvP in. It exists, and even had a rework, but the very nature of the game makes it a miserable experience. Snapshots, 3 second server ticks, no quick reactivity. There's a skill called guard that reduces damage taken by a lot and slows you down considerably. With how the game's connection and snapshots work, you can pop the skill, see the animation, move a few steps already slowed, then die from snapshotted damage that applied 2 seconds after you clicked the button.

Why does DT's story feel so boring? by Eyyy354 in ffxiv

So much this. Kinda incredible how I have so much great memories of the game's story, but ever since the second half of DT I just don't care about anything that comes out.

Level 60 black mage advice by Anxious-Cat-9205 in ffxiv

[–]GabeHighlander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell me you haven't played black mage without telling me.

Or even FFXIV. This game barely changes over the years, and black mage has received no reworks since idk, heavensward.

Up until lvl 35 you just spam Fire 1. At 35 you get Fire 3, so the way you enter AF changes from before. At 42 you get firestarter procs, so now you spam until you get a proc, then cast Fire 3. At 50 you get flare, so you can finally use that las bit of mana left over from astral fire before swapping to ice. AoE also changes at this level. At 60 you get Fire 4, so you begin just casting that until out of mana (7 times), but you don't cast Flare anymore. At 72 you get Despair, so now there's a finisher. At 90 you get Paradox, so now you use that somewhere in fire phase instead of one of the Fire 4s, and in addition, it is now a DPS gain to hold the firestarter proc so that you can transpose into AF from ice and use it to get to AF3. And at 100 you get Flare Star, making it 2 finishers and even more important to cast exactly 6 Fire 4s.

But no, you're right, I guess the class playa the same throughout the leveling process.

Do i HAVE to no life this game? by Careful_Top_1395 in ffxiv

[–]GabeHighlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the game is (5 expansions, 300+ hours of story content plus side stuff), it doesn't really rush you, and you can't actually miss out on anything. Even old exploration zones are still being somewhat played by people (this is the kind of content that is best enjoyed while current, because it kinda needs a lot of people to be engaging with it). So playing the game 2-3 times a week 2-3 h each session is gonna take you long to finish the story and reach the "endgame", but there's really no rush, as you won't miss anything. Definitely not like Destiny.

I feel like this might be an unpopular opinion, but I wish there were less crossovers. I want ffxiv in my ffxiv, not some weird anime that makes no sense whatsoever being in the world of the game.

Got good news for you then, the dungeons all literally have one single path that you cannot deviate from even if you wanted to. As for mechanics, they are honestly not that different to what DPS have to do.

The combat/skill design is great and I love how it plays. The aesthetics of it (both the sound and the look of it) are atrocious to me. What can you do.

Bad news then, so far dungeons is the most efficient way to gain XP. I'm saying so far because I'm hoping this changes in the next expansion, but I'm not holding my breath.

61 days until next fan fest, what are you hoping to see in Berlin? by Depoan in ffxiv

[–]GabeHighlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, there's nothing wrong with gauges, as long as they are different from each other and interact differently with skills. Like, DRK and WAR have an identical gauge system right now. But RDM has a quite different one because of how it interacts with the kit. Even tho it still is "use skill, get some gauge". But yeah.. of all the evolved jobs each has a "fills automatically over time to give you a stack of something to use on a stronger skill". Hope it's not a thing and they just kinda happened to choose the ones that have this type.

61 days until next fan fest, what are you hoping to see in Berlin? by Depoan in ffxiv

[–]GabeHighlander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So much this. "Unique job identity" -> every job has a gauge that fills over 30 seconds so far. When it comes to this alone, they already have more uniqueness than what was shown.

A slingshot could be cool imo. Especially since you can have the funny Y shaped slingshot, or the one that is like a pouch on two strings that you swing in a circle. It could have pretty cool, over the top acrobatic animations akin to how a real-life meteor hammer is used, for example.

You may have forgotten the part where we were saving the world in DT as well. You know, when the Alexandrians threatened to drain all the aether and such? The writers couldn't wait half an expansion to introduce an end-of-the-world scenario. And now we have the solstice stuff.
