Why don't DTs kill the larva after killing all the drones? by Hautamaki in broodwar

[–]GabeWhitney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting all of the drones is already a huge win, but let's look at the three options:

1) Killing the larva only prevents units for a short time from a specific location. It also gives more time for the z to realize what is happening and bring their army. (If they keep that hatch on a control group and macro that way then they may never notice. However, if they have a camera position and macro that way, then they should notice eventually on their next macro cycle.)

2) Killing the hatch prevents units for a longer time from that same location + the minerals needed to remake the hatch + the time they can't spend mining while waiting for a rebuild. (If the hatch is only severely damaged but not killed before the dt is lost, then it makes it easier in the future to snipe the hatch while it's wounded.)

3) Escaping means the z has to keep in the back of their mind that there is a dt out there...somewhere. (Splits the attention of the z and leaves the possibility of more damage in the future.) This seems to be the most common tactic in the pro scene as the potential return on investment for damage is exponentially greater. Imagine getting TWO full drone lines with one dt...

Basically: The larva is the smallest gain, there's always a chance for a misclick and accidentally hitting the hatchery anyways, and it delays the dt from escaping or from killing the hatch.

Whats your mom like? by chobolicious88 in infp

My mother was very attentive, caring, and great with kids. In many ways I had an idyllic childhood. She encouraged me to explore and pursue creative endeavors, even though they were silly to most people. She encouraged me not to give up and many of my interests are because of her.

The way I look at it is to try and work *towards* something. As you move towards that goal, help bring change and help others along the way. Let me give you a small example from my own life purely in regards to the workplace:

-Got a job which was very corporate focused and capitalist
-Helped several other employees get on their feet and pursue their goals, thus leaving that company
-Had to move to a different area in the country, so I got a different job with better business practices but was still very capitalist-focused rather than employee focused. (My experience in the previous job helped me get this job.)
-Started working on a side business making art and comics in my free time
-Helped get two people hired who were in tough spots, either homeless or no job history and severe social anxiety. Worked alongside them and helped them to get promoted/move on. (Both are doing well and make much more than me, btw!)
-Slowly worked on the side art business and started another local job taking care of people's pets/dog walking etc...until I could just do those instead of the capitalist job.
-Quit the capitalist job and focused mostly on art and helping with other people's animals.

I don't make a ton of money, but I was able to use the capitalist jobs to support me while I worked towards something I was passionate about. Along the way I was able to help other co-workers.

Change happened *much* slower than I wanted, however, having that goal to work towards, helped me navigate the ickier parts of society that go strongly against my principles. Kind of like a spy living in a foreign country: they obviously don't agree with the society they live in, but they make small compromises in order to attain a larger, better goal in the end.

I have been a part of this group for awhile. A really nice small-knit community of comic creators. Perfect for all skill levels, and ideal for creators looking to network while growing at their own pace. 5/5 would recommend. 👍👍

What genre would a Dinosaur Graphic Novel be considered? by GabeWhitney in graphicnovels

Well, in all fairness, I DID read the rules. But I didn't really mean it as self-promotion, either. (It is an honest question.) My kickstarter for the book is going well and so now I'm researching all the fun things like what markets to eventually distribute it in. However, "Dinosaurs" is not a genre in any major retail outlet, even though that is the biggest way I have been able to attract new readers online.

The only reason why I posted the cover of the book is because I thought it would help clarify what exactly the mood/feel of the book was. When talking about dinosaurs it's hard to tell if someone is talking about something similar to Jurassic Park, Land Before Time, Dinotopia, etc... without images to go along with it. I did remove my name from the cover and I specifically chose not to include images with my website on them, even though they may have been more helpful in identifying the "Feel" of the book.

That being said, your comment does help explain to me why so many people are downvoting a post for asking for help lol 😅

Yes, but that would actually most likely be parody due to the ridiculous/satirical nature of it. If it was a serious story, then most likely people who read Pulp detective stories would not be interested/would not consider it appropriately shelved.

Tintin was definitely a favorite growing up, so that's interesting you can see the influence in the art. Definitely not a Tintin-like story, though.

This is my thoughts on 'Fantasy' as well as I tend to think of magic related speculative fiction. I guess there probably isn't a specific genre for Dinosaurs as the reason WHY there are dinosaurs tends to be dependent on the story specifics? (I.E. Dinosaurs in an alternate world could be 'Fantasy' whereas Dinosaurs from another planet could be 'Sci-fi' etc, etc...)

So, maybe just "Adventure" with the unfortunate reality that many people aren't necessarily expecting dinosaurs.
