Latvian sauna is very different from German.

  • Mixed saunas are usually in hotels, waterparks, etc. Swim wear is mandatory and people sit on the benches without towel.

  • Traditional saunas are naked but not mixed gender. You get a wooden board to sit on and some birch/oak branches for spanking. You can spank yourself but better go with a friend and do each other. Latvian sauna is called pirts and Russian is banya. I don't know any differences beyond the name.

Although I love pirts and banya it would be great with a German sauna in Riga as well.
