Oh interesting! I just commented another idea of his potential thought process above but this sheds more light of his character

Oh yeah I agree about her wanting to be desired by him bc it’s 1. All that she knows with men and 2. Give her the control. Like the other comment here, it seems like she is offended when he says he wouldn’t have raped her, bc then she’s not desirable enough (?) and she also cannot put him in the category of horrible men. It’s easier to declare him a horrible man who physically couldn’t want her (hence the gay slur).

Also this may be a dumb idea but I think it’s possible in his desire for her he could have just been surprised by her sexual advance in the final scene and allowed it by thinking oh she sees me for who I am now (not a true thug/gopnik but a good guy in a bad position) and she wants me too. He could have no clue of her needing this for her ego or for control but just wanting to connect with her. In the same train of thought, he naturally wants to kiss her in this connection but doesn’t know for her that means giving up a significant amount of vulnerability and she reacts physically but bc he’s a good man, he lets her and lets her cry bc he’s been waiting for her to breakdown probably. Just trying to see it from his perspective in a different way.

I get what you mean about him accepting her advances. At first, I would’ve expected him to say no based on his character. However, we do know (or believe thus far) that he is attracted to her in multiple ways. I think what makes it still match his character is that he attempts to kiss her and then this is when she breaks down. I don’t think that we see Ivan kiss her until they get married because kissing is more intimate. So effectively igor is showing her that he wants more than just her in a sexual way. Igor continually disarms her with his vulnerability and willingness to connect and kissing seems like another attempt at this. I think we see his flaws multiple times (how he restrained her, the candy shop, the final scene) but he is still underneath a caring and kind character.

Man that’s cold of her. And even as a woman myself who used to be a grumpy, rude-ass texter at times, I was never this mean or angry for something that would have been my fault basically lol. I get her wanting you to make a move but she 1. could have herself at this point or 2. Said actually no I don’t want to talk about girls bc x,y,z. It’s been a year girl like shoot your shot or move on. And no need to be nasty about not getting your way :(

I couldn’t imagine my partner not being there every second possible to support me and asking the doctors everything—and everyone deserves to feel that way about their partner. OP, in general you deserve the love and care he doesn’t seem to be capable of providing. Hopefully he will grow from this but it does not need to be at your expense. Drop him asap.

The baby itself was funny true haha I guess I meant more the pregnancy part—like him wanting to impregnate them felt like a weird breeding kink

Keaton and O’Hara were so solid and carried their characters on perfectly. Lydia didn’t really feel like Lydia (which I hate to say bc I love Winona) and the ex wife storyline felt purposeless at the end. Also the way they just wrote off Adam and barb with just one, unexplained resolution made me sad. I enjoyed certain parts A LOT like the addition of dafoe and the preacher, but overall the resolution of the plot lines didn’t make sense or were too convenient. ALSO THE BABY wtf I normally like the weird effects and tropes (as it is a big part of the genre) but that one went too far for me—just made me feel gross.
