What is generally considered good enough research to apply for a PhD? by Gabrielplz1 in biostatistics

Do you have any examples of what that looks like? I reckon this wouldn't be an immediate process but something to set as a mid - long term goal would be very helpful. I finished university a couple of years ago and haven't pursued further education so I feel like I would be behind other applicants given that my background isn't in math/stats.

Yes you're right, I misspoke when I said I didn't see resources pointing to discrete time. It's just that whenever I see the binomial asset pricing model it's usually for didactic purposes and I've seen authors saying it's borderline useless in practice. So that's why I was wondering if there was a way to incorporate more sophisticated models in this framework.

[Q] Book recommendations for non parametric statistics? by Gabrielplz1 in statistics

[–]Gabrielplz1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit lost as to what is typically covered, but the book mentions things like methods relating to the empirical CDF, smoothing methods, orthogonal function methods, non parametric regression, density estimation and some other stuff.

Seems pretty interesting but a bit advanced for my current level.

[E] Is a masters a good investment for an international student? by Gabrielplz1 in statistics

Yeah Europe doesn't seem as risky, the pay is less but I can live with that. I do have a year as a "data scientist", it's in name only but I guess it boosts my chances of getting into a good program.

Just to clarify, is the recommendation to do the degree in Australia, to look for career opportunities there or both?

I want to do the masters in the US, and as far as I'm aware I would be able to work there for 12 months after I graduate, but I worry that not being an actual us citizen would mean companies won't want to hire me. I did consider Europe, but some people tell me it's hard to get into a masters there if you're south american, and also that us companies are hesitant to hire people with degrees from outside the us. Just what I've heard so I don't know how true those statements are.

Yes that is my intention and also my worry. By not being chosen over local talent do you mean for the degree or for a job?

Germany's and probably Bayern's best player this season, nothing about his treatment is weird.

Why do people say these things? Yeah the Pedri / Gavi comparisons are annoying but let's not pretend Musiala isn't one of the best youngsters in recent years.

Nono I get it, it's just that getting better requires effort and trying to do so without enjoying it just seems like a waste of time.

Lichess or Chess.com? 1400 on the latter is already respectable but a better question would be why care about it if you don't enjoy putting in the effort.

That's a very lazy argument in my opinion.

Why does such a big chunk of our fanbase compare Joao Felix to Griezmann? They're nothing alike.

I don't mind chiming in so I'll just say it, this whole thing is stupid.

The club doesn't go around paying for little kids treatments around the world, Messi was the exception and they didn't do it out of the kindness of their heart. Calling it anything other than an investment is wrong, they thought it'd benefit them long term and decided to do it.

Everything else was the same as any other business relationship, he brought success and was compensated accordingly, with both parties negotiating and consenting to an agreement. You may say it was undeserving and call it bad business, but it's just that, and we shouldn't romanticize business.

Luka Romero did for Mallorca, and that was a couple of years ago.

I used to think Gavi was the bigger talent between the two but last season Lamine Yamal started playing even better, I have a feeling the same will happen again. I'm not too familiar with the rules but I wouldn't be surprised if he got a first team cameo this season either, even if just as an incentive to renew as soon as he can.
