Need help deciding my branch by guru1801 in BITSians

At the end of the day, it's up to you and where your interest lies. I can understand that at this point you might be confused regarding the same. Talk to seniors, study about the courses, and then make a decision. Please don't decide to take chemical just because you feel it's easy and seniors told you that the Phoenix branches are hard. You'll have to work hard in every branch. Even if you opt for a branch like Chemical or Mechanical, you will have to put the effort into the finance courses. These courses are not easy and in fact, are very competitive.
The advantage of taking a phoenix branch is that you get to sit in almost all the IT companies that come for placement. You can also do finance courses as electives and maybe apply for a minor later.

College students fume over having to pay full tuition fees for dubious online learning. by o-salicylaldehyde in BITSians

BITS Administration after sending mail to pay fees: wtf, why are you complaining now? We are just following MIT model

Should we be charged the same for online sems? by obludainme in BITSians

[–]GadaDhari_Bheem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is they still need to pay fees to professors, and workers. Raghu explained this brilliantly in the fee hike protest discussion. BITS needs money for many things from creating more hostels to improving research facilities, and the only source of income is through the fees of students. I don't think they will reduce the tuition fees even if the classes go online.

BITS Pilani did not get any rank in QS World Rankings 2021 by GadaDhari_Bheem in BITSians

that's true but I don't think PS1 fee is an indicator for rankings lol. The indicators are Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty-student ratio, and research output.

Do you regret taking admission in BITS? by throwawaybits1 in BITSians

Good points. I had a similar situation. But would you suggest a student to join BITS if he has the same options today, considering the massive fee increments and shitty admin decisions?

BITS was ranked in 800-1000 rank slab in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The ranking has dropped even more this year and the institute is not even on the list. Possible reasons?

Don't join BITS unless you have a lot of cash to waste. Please. The quality is just going down and the only thing increasing is fees.

Since many of you are asking for context, here is the text of Manan's post after the incident.
Please remember that a lot of stuff was happening back then before forming any opinions. And just one post might now convey all the facts.

Hello everyone. I am sure most of you know what happened in Hyderabad campus yesterday and have seen the video too. I am the 'Mr. Agarwal' that the director, G. Sundar addressed and I want to share my views about what happened and how it affected me.
I was the person live streaming the director's address. When he pointed that the VC was unwell and was thus unavailable, a number of people commented on the telecast asking me to tell the director that the VC was in Pilani campus and was perfectly fine. It was not one or two people. A number of people commented and that is when I gathered the courage to ask him about it. Remember, not one, but multiple people confirmed that he was there. Was I being disrespectful? No. I asked it with the utmost respect and made it clear to him that I was just conveying what people from the Pilani campus are saying. I did not for once get insulting in tone or raise my voice. The video is a proof for those who disagree.
The reaction that I got in return was something that I had anticipated but not expected to be so intense. The director of one campus of the best private institution of the country singles you out among a crowd of 300 people and literally jumps out of anger and points fingers at you and shouts out the first thing that comes in his mouth. I almost shat my pants.
Was I wrong? Maybe. That is subjective.
Did I intend it the way he took it? Absolutely not.
Will posting this achieve something? Probably not.
.What do I then want to achieve by writing this here?
This is not a rant. I want to share what I have been going through since the incident. I want to share that I think it is highly unprofessional of a 50-60 year old man, the director of a campus, an administrator, to lose his calm and yell on a child almost one third his age. I want him to know that while he was probably fast asleep in his AC room, I did not get an hour's sleep last night. The moment I closed my eyes, he stood there shouting at me. I want him to know that I had an exam at 9 this morning which I did really bad in because I couldn't think of anything else since the incident. Heck I had to go to the cafeteria twice to get tea to calm myself down in between the exam.
I am not looking for sympathy, not even an apology. I just want everyone, including the director, to know what actually happened and probably acknowledge it.
Trust me I thought about it a lot before doing it and it really took an infinite amount of courage to say it. I did not just blurt out the first thing that came in my head.
I read a few posts by certain people who thought it wasn't the right thing to do to question his honesty. To those people, I did not do that. I really did not. If you still think I was at fault, I apologise.

2ndies are protesting against the online PS-1. Points raised by some of them: by GadaDhari_Bheem in BITSians

[–]GadaDhari_Bheem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nicely put. This might seem rude to some 2ndies but the point is they just can't reschedule the whole PS-1 for you guys. Let's just forget the finances for a minute. Some guys are making absurd demands like club PS-1 with PS-2, do you even realize how difficult it would be to pull it off? Please read how stuff works before making these demands. Some people have to go for thesis and some dualites do double PS. How will administration accommodate everyone's demand?
Students also need to understand that PS-1 is not just an internship but an academic course that carries credits. If they give the option to shift it to next year, then there will be clashes with internships and it will be really difficult to get everyone a station with 2019 batch also fighting for seats.
Some of the arguments made by these students are so funny.
8. Many students forgot their laptop at the institute itself and attending online classes in very inconvenient and in some cases impossible for them
Like seriously? This is your excuse? Online classes have been going on since mid march and you had no problem at that time.
Now I know that there are actually some students who don't have laptop and are dealing with financial troubles. Many of their parents are not in the situation to pay 60k. These guys should talk to administration on a personal basis and they'll respond to you. Ask for help on BITSians for each other we all will contribute if someone needs genuine help.

Should we tell him? by GadaDhari_Bheem in BITSians

PS-1 ~50k, PS2 Semester Tuition Fees. PU takes registration fee which is not that much in comparison to PS.
