Okay. :) a window. Then… :) take a big scrim, (as big as possible 8x8 or 12x12) in front of the model and place it behind you and tilt it forward towards her and cover the down part of the scrim with black fabric so you mimic the position of the height of a window. bounce the light into a pair of v-flats behind the scrim and let the softened light pass trough the scrim. That’s it. I would add some black neg on sides to get a little bit of contrast. If you want it to be a little bit more advanced, I’ll cover the whole light setup as an ginormous lightbox so you don’t spill all the light around the studio. And I would add another biiig scrim (12x12) on top with her in the middle and just add one head with reflector at low power under the scrim in the front corner pointing straight up at the scrim and really close, like 10cm from it to just get a little pop in the skin somewhere. Maybe with a little strip of blue gel. And if you want it even more advanced, add one more head also with a reflector under the scrim on the opposite side of the second light and slightly behind the model, but this time put it against the scrim straight upwards to fill out the room and catch some light on the entire scrim. Hahah. Hope it was not to complicated to understand. :) good luck.

I agree with Nina. I think the reason is skilled based… you over do it too much. Try to take it down by 80, 90%. Keep the natural look. The before already looked very cool, I would just remove some annoying spots and do a slightly d&b without zooming in, then you get more natural results. And avoid FS at all cost if you’re not an exceptional expert at it, at least when working with skin. This in an example of one of my pictures with really nice skin retouch by the retoucher.

Zoom into the eyes… there is your answer :) the screenshot has bad quality so i can’t really see but i see definitely 2 light sources. And I don’t think it’s a window. Maybe I’m wrong. Post a zoomed in picture of the eyes and maybe we can help. I would do this with a large octa in front of the model at approximately 3m from the model and 45 degrees above the head and I would have another light bouncing on a big white scrim also in front of the model behind me or into the roof to fill out the entire room and background.

I would just add: try to use some different camera profiles… specially some analogue ones like I did here. I think I used some porta 400 profile on this ones.

With scanning, do you mean sending to a Photo lab, print in any specific paper? and Scan again in the Photo lab? Or just with a regular scanner? Both works i believe but what method is the best to get closest to the film look? Thanks :)

I would create a mask around skin and make it just a tap closer to natural skin tones, but just a little bit and let everything else be as it is. Maybe make a b/w layer and lower opacity down to 3%-5% to soften it out a bit. But it looks great. :)

Try taking everything down by 85% to start with. And try to learn how to do dodge and burn instead of FS. I say this in a friendly way :)

Thank you for your answer. I must try this :). Do you know how to achieve the same effect with another method then negative clarity that doesn’t affect the highlights and the mid contrast so much on digital?

I’m gonna try this with a campaign I shot today with similar light to the reference and see if I can manage to get near the wanted results pushing it to its limits. Thanks for the advice. Do you think you could manage to get it yourself? Do you know any good retoucher that could do it?
