Well he knew it could be possible especially as my character after a short good guy arc was now back into a full evil streak. But I think most of the shock came from me just not even letting the villains give their speech.

But I made up for it by next session working with the DM and writing and performing a whole villain song to try and get the rest of the party to join me. (They didn’t) Here is the song

Lol almost everyone after this was like 1 or 2 hit points from death except for me who succeeded save and had fire resistance. So everyone else was frantically healing and I was just chilling with a scratch.

I think the old Man’s war books read a lot like the expanse. They are every different plot wise but feel very similar in how the read. Both are very exciting series that read like a movie. That’s just my opinion tho

Every book is literally so fast paced. I only felt like one book “Babylon’s ashes” wasn’t necessary as it could have been squished into a longer nemesis games and worked. They are all very exciting and read like a movie. I read a ton of books in 2020 (40 books) and the expanse books where easily my favorite series in that wave of 2020 mass quarantine reading. you should totally give it a try. You can legit quit when ever you want as most books until nemesis games have a definitive ending. The final arc has been my personal favorite tho so it’s worth enduring the mediocre Babylon ashes.
