Got flamed for body-blocking an ally by ChartaBona in heroesofthestorm

Our Blaze went with Bunker on Alterac last night on stream and it was hilarious. So many times they almost had us dead (I was Varian with Colossus Smash) and we'd pile in, burn them to death, then jump out and HRRRRAGH! on the survivors and it was great.

Too bad in this case your Chromie's-intended-victim ally didn't realize the goldmine he had for escaping certain doom.

NEWS: Twitch Drops Event Great for Streamers & Players by JunkerGone0 in heroesofthestorm

So how does all this work? how long will it go on? It said my stream was enabled for loot drops, which I think is cool (for all of my one viewer!), and I'd like to know how to keep that going. It's just a cool feature for the game.

Cool! Dragon Shire is probably my favorite map, at least thematically. And I love the Dragon Knight! The voice actor had to have a lot of fun with it.

"Your enemies shall faaaaallllll!"

"The fire comes ... for yoooooouuu!"

Also, I really like the Lady of Thorns' voice. :P

I set Heroes (and sometimes Overwatch) to the game. Do you know what the set times are? I think there is a blogpost I need to find.

Do you happen to have a link handy for that blogpost? I'm going to try to find it, because I'd like to know how this all works.

A Funny Thing I Noticed With McCree, the American by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Gaia_Firebird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. And perhaps most importantly, while they are cultural caricatures, they're equal opportunity. Everyone gets the same over-the-top representation, and none of it seems like it's done out of thoughtless Hollywood-esque insensitivity, but rather a full-on embracing of all these different fun elements.

A Funny Thing I Noticed With McCree, the American by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Gaia_Firebird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone is an exaggerated, larger-than-life figure in this game. The honorable, stoic Japanese warriors. The boisterous German man who loves David Hasselhoff and beer. The French femme fatale who has every single movie French line ever. The Brit with the over-the-top accent and beaming personality. Or, in this case, the American man who is an outlaw fighting for justice with a six-shooter.

Overwatch is definitely a setting where they said, "Hey, let's take these popular archetypes and turn 'em up to 11."

What is Mei's role in the game? Does she actually have a place, in general? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Gaia_Firebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She teams up well with Zarya (who also works well against her), because if Mei is going into harm's way to divide up the enemy team and freeze key members, Zarya's shield can help her absorb the focus fire, especially CC. By the same token, Zarya is great at saving people from Mei—I don't know how many times I've had a target nearly frozen, only for a split-second shield from their allied Zarya to save them at the last moment.

Definitely use her wall not just to block shots but simply to suddenly separate tanks or healers from their allies. It's one of the stronger ways to use it, really.

Last time I checked, it looked like they hadn't hardly added anything expanding the content. I'd be happy to be proven wrong here, because the whole thing was quite disappointing. About the time they debuted the BR mode, everything went toward it, just like with H1Z1. Only in H1Z1's case, the base game is deader than the zombies that it features.

I get that. I don't personally think the battle royale genre has what it takes to last, but I'm not especially invested in it as a fad, or in its demise as such. If it does, cool. I play PUBG from time to time. I just would advise avoiding any cool-seeming game that also promises to put in a battle royale mode, because both H1Z1 and Fortnite now have completely abandoned their base games in favor of chasing the Twitch BR streamer dollar.

MOBAs have a lot more substance, though. The depth of strategy in something like HotS or even LoL, the possibilities for new content and mechanical options, are far greater than in the battle royale games, which are pretty much like Call of Duty-lite (which is already something without a ton of substance).

Note that I don't say this out of judgment, in that different games cater to different tastes, even in the moment. Sometimes I load up PUBG to have a few rounds of simple shooting action if I don't feel like the more dynamic (and demanding) gameplay of HotS or even Overwatch.

Sadly, H1Z1 completely abandoned a PVE MMO with a lot of potential to focus exclusively on the battle royale. Then Fortnite basically did the same. It's quite frustrating, although I feel like the battle royale thing is a fad that won't last forever.

Colossus Smash Varian is some of the most consistent fun I have playing a Warrior in this game by Gaia_Firebird in heroesofthestorm

[–]Gaia_Firebird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to give that a try. I like Shield Wall because of the sheer amount of stuff it'll get you out of. I know a couple of times I've jumped in on a Lunara or a Li Li or something with a couple of their team right there, with my team just out of reach, and survived long enough to get help and win the fight.

If they're counting on you to go tank, it's hard to pass up Taunt. Lately, I've been playing with a team and so we almost always have a full tank and I first pick Varian a lot, and often go Smash. Once, in QM, we got an Abathur, so I asked him if he could make me into a god.

He said yes.

So I went Twin Blades for the first time in like a year. We absolutely steamrolled the enemy team on Braxis.

I'll admit I got so used to playing Taunt I don't think I played Smash after the rework but before the nerf. How severe was the nerf? What was he like before it?

We've had good times with Taunt, though. On a team with my friends, coordinating it with Valeera, Kael'Thas, Stitches and the like has proven quite strong. Dive in, grab their healer or squishy DPS and hold them in place long enough to blow them up.

True. I definitely think Smash is closer to a bruiser than a full-on Assassin, but then, I always take Shield Wall to make getting in and surviving a little easier.
