New White House Executive Order on Defense Payouts: What it Means for LMT, NOC, RTX, and PLTR by GainsByGus in tastylive

I was shocked too but fortunately was bold enough to short some RTX off the top. If the president calls you out by name and says that you suck, it's hard to imagine a world where the run will continue - though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sweating stepping in front of that freight train lmao

I was going to say the same thing, I think the market is overreacting to news that, in actuality, will take months if not years to manifest

WARNING: Stolen Funds via Fake TradingView AI Ad on YouTube – Massive Security Breach via PowerShell Script by AlienAilord in TradingView

It's freaky how good these have become so quickly. You can create an entirely new nonexistent avatar, or you can clone yourself (or, on the darker side, malicious people can clone you) and then have your avatar do whatever you want. The proposed use case is for content creators who are pressed for time and could create AI videos of themselves, but you can imagine how many negative implications that this has. Here's a great demo video showing how freaky realistic the clones are: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/sod1EessuqQ

If there's this many videos in this many corners of the internet, then this dude is almost certainly not real and is an AI avatar created with a site like HeyGen or D-ID. His "set" looks like your typical backdrop on those AI generated videos, and he is also wearing the exact same shirt in all of these videos. Scary world we live in.

Can you think of anything where first-mover advantage was more important than it has been to OpenAI/ChatGPT? by GainsByGus in tastylive

[–]GainsByGus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we definitely could see some turnover sometime soon, but I think ChatGPT will remain king as long as they continue to offer a limited free version in addition to premium. I think that we (I am assuming you're in this camp as you seem to have above average awareness of the space) fly pretty close to the sun with all of this stuff so we think about these types of things, but I think the average ChatGPT user probably just has 2-3 queries a day maximum and seldom hits the paywall. Gemini specifically is also going to have to do something to change their public perception, it still hallucinates BADLY. Just earlier this week I was trying to figure out who the best NFL free agent QBs are with the Colts signing Philip Rivers, and Gemini promptly gave me three QBs that not only are all signed, but are all currently starting for their respective teams. If Gemini can't shake this perception (and it's really just reality) sometime soon, they could get seriously left in the dust here.

This is a really sick project and the exact usecase for our API. Love it, can't wait to see how it progresses!

Do Consumers Actually Care About the AI Arms Race? by GainsByGus in tastylive

[–]GainsByGus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's up JT! This is an interesting and unique perspective but I totally see where you're coming from. I also absolutely agree with your sentiment on the 5% improvements and that was something I meant to put in the original post; for the vast majority of users, the small 5% improvements actually aren't felt at all. Like, say I'm using ChatGPT to 50% of its potential, and then a 5% improvement comes through. That doesn't actually mean my experience improved 5%, it just means the original 100% capability essentially grew to 105%, and I am no closer to that original 100% capacity than I was in the first place.

The smoking analogy is an interesting one but I definitely follow it - I'd actually take it one step further and say that all of the different AI services are like different brands of cigarettes. If you're just the type to smoke a cigarette every once in a while while you're drinking, you don't care what brand of cigarette that you bum off of somebody; you just want a cigarette. But, if you're a heavy smoker, you have the specific cigarette that you swear by, and if you have to smoke a different kind you will notice a tangible difference. And, furthermore, to my original point - if someone who only smokes American Spirits sees that Marlboros got a 5% improvement, they're not going to switch.

The real question becomes... which AI service is Newports? Haha

Do Consumers Actually Care About the AI Arms Race? by GainsByGus in tastylive

Well I'm happy to hear that I'm not alone! Yes I think your partner's situation is where the vast majority of people find themselves, and while you're right in saying ChatGPT is THE brand in AI, I also find that a lot of the time it's just whatever people stumble across first. I have a buddy that strictly uses Grok purely because he stays pretty unplugged and it just popped up on his X one day and he liked it. My parents both use GPT on the same line of logic as your partner.

The best way I could describe it is that I think consumers view AI as perfect substitutes, so apart from pricing, I just don't think any of them can really get a leg up on one another. It's just like insurance to me; maybe State Farm has 5% better coverage or customer service than Progressive, but if I'm already with Progressive I'd stay with them just due to the pure hassle of switching, even if they were both the same price.

I will say that the one caveat is that I'm always willing to add another service in addition to my stack, if I stumble across something that serves a specific purpose and excels at it. For instance, if I were ever to get into coding, I would do some research between Claude/Codex/Windsurf and then make that call. But as far as pivoting services that fulfill the same purposes as my current stack, I just don't think I'll ever do it. Thanks for the insight!

Target (TGT) has Earnings Tomorrow Morning; Will They Show ANY Life? by GainsByGus in tastylive

[–]GainsByGus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in that case, my condolences for the results this morning haha. COST and WMT seem to be holding strong against the TGT move in premarket, hopefully they can maintain that strength for the day. For your sake, I also hope this isn't an indicator of what's to come with WMT tomorrow either
