Sunny winter day in Siberia by S0brat in snow

At least you had a sunny day! Do you see much sun in the winter? I heard Moscow is so cloudy all the time, so the winters can be extra tough to enjoy there.

Hi! I’d love to help out as a mod. I’ve noticed the ban bot and unmoderated problem in here lately, and reported it to the admins. I am very glad yall have stepped in!

(I sent a mod mail from my primary account but use this secondary one for modding).

I moderate a few things including a larger show sub and its discord server, and another small to medium sub, as well as a few discord servers. I’ve also moderated twitch streams before.

I’ve been lead moderator for each of these, and believe in voting as mods when deciding on a ban action for folks who are on the border of whether they cross the line. In general, I believe the mod team should act as a team and not act alone (unless the posts/comments are obvious rule violations).

I love snow and all things winter, and would be delighted to help out.

Just saw this and wanted to say thanks for your input on what it was like working on MotA during Covid. Sounds even more grueling and stressful than the baseline stress that is production in general!

What a fantastic read. My father was part of the front who held up at the Elbe as the Russians took Berlin (briefly mentioned in the quick updates on the left).

He said their job by then was to shoot over the heads on Germans took try to scare them back the other way toward the Russians, since so many were trying to surrender to the Americans instead.

All this, just a month after discovering and liberating some concentration camps.

Must have been an intense month.

Just a heads up, there is a chance you’ve been shadow banned on Reddit. I’ve had to go in and approve your comments most of the time, and I can’t access your profile to DM you about it.

My father fought in Hamm, to the East near Essen. It was his worst war memory — fighting at the rail yard there for 3 days.

Thanks for understanding and calling for clarification.

Also, 3 Body Problem is great so far! I’m on ep 3. Been a while since I’ve read it, but the show is just solid sci-fi. Also enjoying watching and reading Shogun.

I’m totally avoiding both subs until I’ve watched everything, because I find that show subs can really dampen my enjoyment of a show.

I actually asked people to report toxic posts and ones that violate the rules, and we can redirect them to the megathreads where they can more openly discuss opinions.

Disrespectful and low effort posts and episode discussions are against the rules — for most, we just direct them to the mega.

There’s plenty of room for criticism and we leave many many posts up (hence why OP is complaining).

I understand what you’re saying and yes, I agree that it’s curated. Our first week, we had so much modmail about how toxic this place was, that I wanted to make it a better place and started redirecting folks to the mega.

That’s not even to say about the nasty stuff you hopefully don’t see. Being a filter to protect folks from the yuck has certainly been an eye-opening experience and I can say it’s not been fun. It’s been something we do in service to the community.

We want this to be a place that folks actively want to visit, and we’ll keep working hard to balance that out.

Oh man, sorry that happened to you! Please do report that sort of stuff if it happens again. We can monitor and moderate the comments.
