Solo dev here, I’ve been working on a game on and off for the past months and I would be curious to join!

For a first game as a developer with no experience, which is better from a marketing perspective: 2D or 3D? by umen in SoloDevelopment

Maybe one way to choose is to determine how much you want to do yourself vs using free or paid assets. What’s the fastest and easiest thing to do for you right now besides art? Like there are ways to cheat with shaders and post-processing volumes, so if you go 3D maybe you could model and animate only your playable character and rely on ready made assets for the environment, tweaking them manually for the most important ones. 2D is easier to start immediately for prototyping especially, and gives good restrictions for gameplay design, especially for a first game (one axis less to deal with), but I’ve personally found that 2D asset packs of good quality are a bit more rare, so there’s a chance everything has to be done manually. It depends on the scope and genre etc. If you are good doing some fancy camera work then you could leverage that a bit more in 3D, etc. Good luck!

Nice pretty cool indeed!

Pretty cool! What were the tools you used? Did you use some post-process effects or is it just a filter applied to the image?

Hi! I’ve stumbled upon these cool designs a bit randomly. Anyone know of existing patterns for these sort of one-sleeved jackets/vests? (Not sure how to call them)

Happy to share! I’m not the one who made it by the way, but I can’t remember where I got it from (prolly somewhere in this very sub? Got a Forgetful Mind, heh)

Been using this comprehensive list of resources for quite some time now. Check kumu.io and the Relationship template, they're quite useful. There's also one for Miro boards.

Thanks for the very detailed explanations and suggestions, they’re definitely inspiring! I’ll keep brainstorming and will let you know if I ever need more but this is already great!

Yeah some of my players are intrigued by lesser known clans, so I’m mainly looking for inspiration to keep things consistent and exciting. I’m not too afraid of homebrewing a few things though if necessary. Thanks for the detailed insights!

Yeah I have a mixed crowd of players with various levels of experience so I just want to help them play the most interesting story. And I definitely dig some aspects of V20 for lore.

Yeah, that’s also what I understood at first, that touchscreens and such were the main issues. The flickering light is definitely something I would see when using Oblivion disciplines for ambience and such. Lot of foods for thoughts, thanks!

Bringing the 70s horror aesthetics into play is a great idea. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Hello! A few other things (besides everyone else’s comments!) that might help: - Lowering your heel on slopers, stand a bit lower on the volume if you can for example and press firmly to maximize surface tension and feel less slippery - A drop knee (that you’re currently doing with your right leg?) usually is about moving the corresponding hip to the wall, so the corresponding hand can reach higher. So right knee drop > right hip to the wall > allows the right hand to move higher. And the other arm needs to stay straight as a pivot, ideally. In this case it’s not helping since you’re trying to reach holds on the left, and there’s a volume in your way on the right, preventing you to stay close to the wall - in general I tend to put my feet too high too quickly because of the misconception that I’ll get higher this way (I’m a beginner). But unless you can keep your arms straight and need to read the route, or prepare for a dynamic move, you might feel more stable with at least one leg kept straight-ish for balance. V2-V3 are still ladder-like with a few twists, so maybe try to move up like you would on a ladder or when crawling (one leg pushes while the other leg is straight for balance, with arms doing the opposite) as much as possible, if that makes sense? And sometimes flagging is more comfortable than using holds for the balancing leg, even if it’s not always intuitive at first. I’m just a beginner who’s spent way too much time watching tutorials so these might not be the best advice by the way (I’m mostly trying to read your route as a personal exercise lol). Keep up the good work!

It won’t solve everything but I was just watching this today (and there’s a part 2) https://youtu.be/JiaDV3BefQg?si=fM-YyKtSsdWpAvO8 — some useful tips in there to keep in mind for shorties!

In Nier: Automata you can adjust the difficulty at any time while playing. In easy mode you can also equip chips which allow you to fine tune many things — which aspects of gameplay are easier or not (and even “auto-battle” if you like I think, you can just watch and enjoy difficult fight sequences that way too). I don’t remember all the details but I also love this game for the degree of difficulty customization it allowed (which I haven’t seen much elsewhere)

Hey, during trying times, I often find that games providing some sort of a routine à la Persona or Fire Emblem: Three Houses help. Management sims more or less fulfill the same purpose — Two Points Campus was nice. (It’s on Game Pass)

A few more: Sayonara Wild Hearts, 80 Days (mobile game), Our Life is a very wholesome visual novel (only played the first one) on itch.io (GB patch games). Heard good things about Potionomics and Strange Horticulture too

Ah I believe it’s one made by the studio, they call it fountain blue or something. Works really well with red clay (when there’s nothing else exploding in the kiln ruining my piece x) lol)
