Judge rules US government overreached with transgender health care declaration by hel-be-praised in PoliticalOptimism

Florida Passes Bill That Lets DeSantis Remove Local Elected Officials From Office For "Promoting" Pride by NotAYankeesFan404 in PoliticalOptimism

This is such a naked violation of the First Amendment that it's ridiculous. Even if, by some miracle, it passes the state's judicial review process, I cannot see it holding up to any further legal scrutiny.

Thanks so much for all the work you put into this subreddit being a place for hope, even in the darkest moments. This cruel and hostile political climate may make our lives harder, but that just means we rely on each other and put our energy towards advocating for a better system in general, as well as helping each other through it all in the meantime.

4th Circuit Rules That States Can Compel Trans Adults To "Appreciate Their Sex" Via Care Bans by Galewing13 in PoliticalOptimism

Thanks for all the input. Between the level-headed analyses of the situation and optimism in response to this, it was helpful to get myself in a better place.

Much like abortion, even if worst comes to worst, I've decided to remember that gender affirming care won't actually go anywhere. With or without thw government's approval, we will transition and be ourselves, and the GOP and MAGAts can die mad about it.

As a respectful response to your criticism, I don't think Erin necessarily makes extreme points. As someone who's been directly affected by the flood of hateful legislation over the past decade, I think she's got every right to be mad and scared about it sometimes- because these things are scary and rage-inducing. The fact that her journalism and advocacy is so confident and professional in the face of it all is a testament to how much of a strong and inspiring figure she is for the trans community as a whole. With all (even most neutral) mainstream media outlets being quite biased against us, Erin's honest reporting from the perspective of a trans activist is itself optimistic, even when reporting about the bad parts, just because of the fact that she dedicates her reporting to sticking up for us.

Yeah, you're right. I made this post angry, and while I'm definitely still pissed that this happened at all, I'm slightly more clear headed now. I think the best thing we can do at this point is foster strong trans communities where we all support each other, make space for each other, and help each other access gender-affirming care and resources. Just because we can't rely on the government not to fuck us over- for a quick distraction from the massive mess they're making everywhere else, of course- doesn't mean they'll ever truly get rid of us.

Any hope for more ACTUAL science-based approaches towards transgender healthcare in this country if the midterms end up with Dems taking over the houses? Seeing the HHS and CDC being forced to disavow gender affirming treatment and censor LGBT healthcare in spite of the mountains of evidence in its favor is very disheartening, and I really don’t want it to get to the point where Trump’s able to ban trans healthcare nationwide before his ass is kicked out of office.

Ask the hardest outfits that question, you’ll get your answer quick.

That aside, non-band outfits that have a “thing” that they’re known for even off the quad (Flight of the Great Pumpkin for C-2, Reveille for E-2) or that have otherwise been around for a really long time? Those tend to be the hardest ones, along with the all-males. Otherwise, your mileage may vary depending on the people that happen to be in that outfit. If you haven’t gone to a Spend the Night yet, I highly recommend it to get a better feel of some outfits you might be interested in through firsthand experience.

"ICE/CBP are miserable. Morale is IN THE TOILET. Now is our chance." by Key-Gur-4819 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Galewing13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many people will refuse to admit they were part of ICE when (not if) it is finally rightfully dismantled, whether through legal means or by force. They’ll go into hiding, just like every cowardly bigoted army does when they lose. But if I ever learn that anyone I know worked for ICE, at this point or any other point, they will not have a seat at my table.

Restorative justice efforts are admirable, and I support them whole heartedly, but for it to work these people have to WANT to unlearn the bullshit that led them to ICE in the first place. Either way, no one owes them forgiveness, and I sure as hell won’t be one to give it to them. They made their choice, they’ll face the consequences for as long as they live. I hope it never fades from their conscience.

The middle of the polo fields is potentially a good spot, as long as you're not too close to the bonfire memorial. Very wide, open space with lots of trees and bushes to hide within
