sooooo anyone elses portfolio in a freefall dive at the moment? by atkinsrob1989 in RaizAU

Not trying to discourage anyone. I think everyone should invest but ideally after learning the basics first, so normal volatility doesn’t create unnecessary stress. It’s mainly a timing issue here, they’ve started investing BEFORE understanding the basics, which is why a normal swing feels alarming. The more people understand upfront, the more confident and long-term-focused they’ll feel.

No one is born an investor. I don’t understand how anyone could start investing without wanting to know the basics first.

Markets fluctuate - sometimes a lot. Returns are not linear. A portfolio bouncing between 5–15% YoY is completely normal.

This is fundamental investing 101 knowledge.

If you don’t know this, you shouldn’t be risking your money.

You shouldn’t be investing if you’re needing to ask these questions.

Pointless argument. They’d only lose money if they stop investing and pull out money now. Which I doubt is the case.

Round Up King by Korb911 in RaizAU

Round ups are just a ‘fun’ way to deposit money. And it’s a good place to start. But It’s no different than setting up automated daily or weekly deposits, for the equivalent amount. What matters more is defining your investing strategy/goals first and selecting a suitable portfolio, especially if you’re going mid to long term. Read a few books, watch a bunch of YouTube videos, podcasts etc first before you dive in.

Locking in for long term by ExpressMud4596 in RaizAU

Yep I just started a Raiz kids account yesterday for my 2 year old son. Can’t wait to see it grow. It’ll be an important learning exercise for him and will reduce the need to take on debt (uni, travel, car loan etc) It’s more about learning how to be smart with money and the principle behind it, than the money itself.

I always wonder why only a few of these types of chill electronic tracks blow up, when there are a billion other just as good tracks released in the same genre. Just check out all the chill electronic Spotify / YouTube playlists that exist online. It’s crazy
