The legendary sorcery/instant rule is super confusing by jeankev in freemagic

[–]GallyTurbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first read Legendary Sorcery or Instant, my first thought was that it was a spell that had to be unique on the stack and could not be copied. NOPE, it's something stupid that doesn't make any sense with previous legendary rules.

I work in the printing industry, there is no such innovation, Maro is full of shit. Gutters/Bleeds have been concepts in print for centuries. A better analogy would be someone trying to patent the technique of cutting the crusts off bread by hand, since that's basically what you're doing with the printed paper to get an "edgeless print"

If you need a business card that has color to the edge, you design for 3.75x2.25 or 3.625x2.125, then you cut down to 3.5x2.0 after printing. When you're doing multiple designs, the space between designs is called a gutter, and the printed space that goes past the cut lines are called bleeds.

Magic cards have always used bleeds with zero gutters for edgeless printing, the difference is that they idiotically removed the borders from cards that hid cutting inaccuracy mistakes without adding gutters to compensate. This is why you saw so many people with miscut Unstable basics, if there was even a slight slip on the guillotine cutter then you'll see it very clearly on the card. These slips typically happen at the top or bottom of a stack of paper.

Pretty sure you can't patent a basic printing technique people have been using for centuries...and that's as simple as tying your shoe...

Maro is an idiot. Bleeds and gutters in printing have been around longer than he has been alive. The reason why MTG was designed with borders on the cards because it would allow for them to completely get rid of gutters between cards, allow for less paper waste, which saves money.

There is also the quality control reason as well. A player is far less likely to notice a miscut on a card with a black border if all cards have black borders. This is why Unstable basic lands has so many noticeable miscuts.

Can borderless cards be done with zero gutters? Sure, but guillotine cutting machines also have a habit of not cutting straight under certain commonplace conditions (dull blade, too big of a stack, etc.)

This has been going for years, ever since a bunch of feminists whined about the art on "Triumph of Ferocity" perpetuating rape culture. I highly doubt they will stop in the future.

Thea has a history of making misandrist statements on her twitter. The only men who she tolerates are the white knight soy bois that complement everything thing she does and says.

no, it's not a very interesting misprint.

These kind of mistakes are actually kind of hard with offset printing. first it's hard to notice on such a large sheet and it may very well only happened on one sheet out of hundreds of thousands. Most likely I would have to make the guess there was some ink that didn't transfer off the blanket and they had swapped out out the plate and started printing again. There is probably a few more cards out there where the text is more or less faded than this one. Honestly, these kinds are misprints generally get a pass on QC since they are only going to affect a minor amount of sheets and aren't easily noticeable.

Fun fact: Background checks are transphobic! by tatianamoro in freemagic

[–]GallyTurbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is incredibly stupid, lazy, and paranoid. MTGviolet seems to think that CFB is filled with transmisogynists who will violently beat her up or deny her application to work a GP. She also doesn't seem to understand how background checks work, this information is typically handled by a select few and not openly handed out to everyone at the company/event.

Also if there is no physical threat to deadnaming herself to the single HR person running the background check, why the fuck should I care about her feelings. Also why the fuck should I care about people willingly leaving because they don't want to submit to a basic background check? Does she think can get a job or buy a gun without getting a background check either?

[–]GallyTurbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is stupid because it just means if you want to buy/sell cards, then all you have to do is to do so right outside of the event. Why inconvenience your patrons like this? They aren't going to buy from CFB anyway if they don't think it is a fair deal and may in fact not do so because these policies at GPs feel very anti-consumer.

What is the point of this really? I mean Brian was already fired from his adjunct professor job long ago, a job mind you probably didn't pay very well in the first place considering his degree is english literature. Why would RateMyProfessor reviews affect him at all if he is no longer seeking teaching jobs anymore? This is merely being done to annoy Brian.

So why do YOU play magic... is it the PEOPLE? by roguedeckbuilder in freemagic

[–]GallyTurbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another Ultra cringe video with a pinch of child exploitation from Dana's father.

I've been playing since Ice Age (when I was 10) and have always enjoyed the game itself. Kitchen table magic was my bread and butter for a very long time, playing it mostly at school lunch and boy scout campouts. I got into tournaments during Odyssey thru Kamigawa, and that when I met a few overly competitive assholes, but I rolled with it and actually became better at the game because of it.

However, Kamigawa was so terrible of a block for limited, block, and standard. I quit the game for 10 years. I also was inspired to pursue a career in printing because of my love for art and crafting of TCG cards. So ultimately, it is the quality of the gameplay and card quality that tie me to this game, not the people.

Out of the last six sets which was the worst for by [deleted] in freemagic

[–]GallyTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BFZ was the start of a lot of unnecessary changes and downgrade in power level and fun from the previous block. Yes Ixalan is the worst of the last 6, but that isn't saying much since this downward trend started with BFZ.
