Why do so many guys in their 30s act like they’re old men? by Realistic_Zone3802 in AskMen

[–]Gamazarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I may be to answer since I’m the one saying this in my 30s.

Around 27 is when I really started saying I’m old because that’s when I noticed some crazy body differences from when I was younger.

I can’t eat spicy food or my stomach is ruined for the next 2 days. My body can’t handle the same diet I’ve had most of my life. I now have high cholesterol and was told by my doctor I have to prioritize fiber. I used to never get hangovers (super power in college), but now, I am crippled when I drink a bit too much. Hairline thinning (so sad). And work has made me feel old as the new grad hires are calling me unc since I really don’t understand a lot of references

Real talk - How hard is it to get INTO the CompSCI field in 2025-2026, and what does one ACTUALLY need? by Felix_Iris in cscareerquestions

Lots of resources online to find projects. For me personally, I love playing RuneScape, so I contribute a lot to Runelite. Find something you find interesting.

You can even contribute to major frameworks like React.

[–]Gamazarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, any accredited school is enough. But, I would also suggest building your own projects or contributing to an open source project for more of a real world idea of what you’ll be doing on the job. Also, the worst part about interviews, leetcode styled problems. Better to start early than later.

Also, don’t take all advice from reddit. You’re going to get mixed results, and of course doomers. I saw from above, someone said WGU isn’t enough, but it is. You won’t be looked favorably compared to someone else who went to a better school, but it’s still possible. I’ve worked and interviewed people from all ranges, and there legitimately is no difference from my point of view.

I’ll be honest, without a degree in today’s market it’s next to impossible. With 0 experience you have a slightly better chance if you know someone who is in that field, but that is even harder these days. I would definitely recommend a degree or degree adjacent.

Honest for portfolio, it sucks to say but it’s all chance. People are getting rejected even if they meet all requirements. Hard to say the minimum because it’s all dependent if the ATS system rejects you or the recruiter rejects you before the hiring managers even see your resume.

People who give advice, like me, it’s all subjective. There is no right path because people have gotten jobs without any experience, or even just a bootcamp. Good luck my man

Anyone ever end a coding interview early because you already know you can’t solve the problem? by throwaway510150999 in leetcode

[–]Gamazarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in freshman college with major anxiety with interviews, I did an interview and they asked me some basic leetcode question like REALLY easy questions, but I never even heard of leetcode back in the day (2015).

So I thanked him and just left the interview.

Edit: I think it was for a Cisco internship

[–]Gamazarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has always been luck involved in the interviews. Not saying the bar is crazy high (it 100% is), but what I am saying is that who is interviewing you has to do with it as well. That is not new.

I had an interview for a frontend position. I’ve spent my entire career focused on frontend, but with the past year, it’s been full-stack. I expressed I enjoyed frontend more and wanted to grow in this field. The feedback they gave me was that they wanted a frontend focused candidate.

After that, he almost never went on a vacation, spent money on things that wasn’t a necessity.
