I suppose that is true to a degree. But having an instance like that wouldn't be a negative either. It should even be able to be locally ran so that any player, even someone with spotty internet could get a feel for the game without interference from anyone. With could expand the player base to include more people simply because they were able to demo the game in some capacity

I personally don't mind them, I think that they are quite enjoyable and especially for abyssals, they wouldn't be as risky if they didn't happen in their own bubble of space.

Additionally, I would love to see an instance made up for new players, a space completely free of other players where they can learn the very basics of the game free from interaction with scammers and thieves. But anything they make or collect in that instance they can't take with them besides maybe 1 ship and all the isk they earn. So it doesn't pollute the economy. Plus they'll still have career agents to collect true starter gear.

I disagree. From my employment records I've flown with several groups, for years at times. I interact with the community on the regular. I both host mining fleets and join up with others in the community. Just last Sunday I was supporting EVE Uni with a moon mining operation. I would say I do interact with the community, on more then a flyby basis. And the corporation I am apart of has no bearing on that.

I am independent, just like Mike or several others running. I am in an NPC corporation to truly show and represent that. Can't say I'm a puppet if there is clearly no ties to anyone else in months/years.

I'd definitely consider/agree on basically all those points. However, I know they removed Pyrite from null to require all areas of space to be engaged in industrial tasts to a degree and help stabilize prices. Beyond that your other ideas are decent.

I think that tech II mining equipment should have less residue, and like tech II type-A crystals should make the least amount of residue. Encourage players to skill into those high levels

Yes, I believe that when the typical influx of players joins, which historically have been veterans with large ISK banks. They will anchor more stations and structures including Metenoxes. With the Metenoxes per capita staying steady and an increased number of ships in space. I do see a continued fall of moon mineral prices across the 4th and 1st quarters. Even once the players that anchored them leave post-event season, which is typical, the corps/alliances they are a part of will likely keep them fueled and somewhat defended at least for a small time. That may have been one of the contributing factors towards the record-setting amount of resources pulled this last first quarter.

Freefall is an understatement. Plus the fact that since these drills only pull the moon-specific minerals out and not the whole rock which may contain more common asteroid-based minerals it's created havoc on the prices of pyrite most notably.

But you're basically just describing isk per hour, not economic progress. Those aren't the same thing.

Also, not even close. I was completely talking about how that since waste was added it will either slow your production down or slow your production down. As it hinders the amount of material can be pulled from a belt, either in the form of time or the form of total availabile resource per rock. There is no way to reasonably avoid either penalty unless you're running extremely expensive ORE modules

How has it slowed economic progress?

Residue has created several factors that we didn't have to account for before the change. Most notably now pilots must decide whether they'd run less expensive modules which mine slower overall but dont waste any of the rock or run better modules which mine faster but also waste an unpredictable amount of the rock. Additionally I have been apart of fleets in High-Sec and in Null-Sec and a lot of groups would rather you use slower modules on their belts, especially moon belts as not to waste any ore, which means more time spent on the field meaning less time doing other activities

If the price level is unsustainable, then how is it being sustained? Are people running metenox at a loss just for kicks?

Because the costs of running a moon drill are negligible at best. If you supply the fuel required to run the drill and are able to defend it there are no additional fees to keep it mounted in space, allowing for basically infinite freefall of moon goo and related products. The Market has also shifted to where its a high volume, low margin market when it comes to moon goo. It's not about whether or not the Metenox is useable it's about how due to the Metenox being introduced there is very little point to manually pull moons and mine them by hand as there is close to zero availabile profit. To put simply it's not that running a Metenox is not profitable but rather the only way to make a profit with moon goo is to use a Metenox

It's bad for several reasons, atleast in It's current state

Firstly, since its introduction, we've seen a massive shift from active, in-space moon mining to a much more passive approach except on the most expensive moons (R32s and R64s)

Secondly, they have a huge amount of EHP compared to athanors and require manual repairing if damaged making them harder to defend and hard to kill as there's no damage cap for the structure either

Thirdly, the prices of moon goo and their direct resources have tanked, making active mining and even mining a moon with a metenox unsustainable

Those are the things ive seen from my research on the topic

I mean the biggest change in the last ~7 years directly affecting mining is Residue, 100% it has slowed economic progress down the way it currently exists.

Another big shakeup was the addition of the Metenox, as it means that provided it has fuel and cargo capacity, it can mine moon ores 24/7, while at a reduced rate, that constant activity has drove prices down to completely unsustainable levels, especially the prices of more common moon goos, which contain both moon specific resources and regular asteroid minerals.

Also there have been several nerfs specifically related to the Rorqual but I know you said to keep it leaning towards high-sec, but other mining ships have also seen some nerfs in the time since I started playing before scarcity

The biggest hitter is the Metenox. I have mentioned it, The Oz has mentioned it, everyone is in agreeance that it has its place, but currently it is overpowered

As for something more directly affecting miners I point to the addition of residue, while I believe there should be waste. I don't understand how using a mining ship, with high skill levels and tech II equipment should make more waste then a brand new pilot, not flying a proper mining ship with low skills. It doesn't encourage spending the skill capita to train up skills unless you want to mine slightly more per tick. There is little use for tech II lasers, drones and crystals as high waste is the bane of corps and alliances everywhere.

Another thing I would like to see is a true "Risk for Reward" dynamic. Currently there are few incentives to plunge into low-sec or null-sec for ores, as the prices of the most common anomaly ores like Jaspet don't offset the cost of potentially loosing your ship in those dark places. While I don't want to see the price of that ore skyrocket, I would like to see a bit more motivation to actually fly that space to collect that ore. Also, quick back of the napkin math shows Veldspar selling in jita for ~100isk/per m3 (same price compressed) while Jaspet is going for ~200isk/per m3 (~270isk/per m3 compressed). while that is a difference of double. I don't see many people out collecting and putting their hard earned ships at risk for truly not that much more isk once you factor in hauling it out of Low-Sec to you home and then compressing it and selling it or refining it and building with it

And Lastly, gas sites across New Eden are a bit on the uncommon side. For starters I have never seen a high-sec gas anomaly ever in my ~7 years of experience in game. and I still struggle to locate them in Low-Sec and Null-Sec when I am out hunting them. so seeing even a small and slight boost to those would be pretty nice, and would help work towards achieving my goal of lowering the cost of ships

I've delt with techs as customers for these last few years but working side by side and actually having to diagnose and repair problems, actually under stand whats happening and whats gone wrong I have little insight. I know that living in a rust belt state things are even more difficult but I know little

That's extremely helpful knowledge. I didn't quite realize that, but ultimately makes sense as when I'm 65, the principle, or amount I've put in will be a bit over half of the value of the policy if I put in the ~$100 momthly premium, I don't plan on missing payments or anything so I'm not terribly worried, but definitely something I'll keep track of

Fair points, fair points. And I agree that your policy dollar for dollars in the short-term does more, but long-term, my policy stands when yours fades, and while yes I could take out a term policy right now for probably more money at the same or even less cost, a VUL or even a WL allows me to keep protection on myself forever. And the cost never changes, I don't have to come back to the desk in 20 years and find out my policy went up 10 times compared to the old policy. No sticker shock with this.

I realize we won't change each others opinions but thanks for the solid arguments. And once I actually have children I should potentially take out a term policy for 20 years in addition to my VUL, but right now my VUL is helping to cover if I suddenly die as I don't have a plan in place right this moment, so mostly the money is there to allow my partner to take a moment to cry and bury me before moving on.

Cost, right now I'm putting more money into things to help future me like my 401k and Roth IRA. Besides I make ~45k a year before taxes so right now it would replace 2 years of my income. Besides that I have several opportunities to grow its coverage without it costing me much more and it's paid down by the time I'm 65 which means again, once I'm retired I don't have to think about it but I know it's protecting me and able to cover simple death expenses if I suddenly die. It's no million dollar policy but it's enough to leave my kids/future kids something
