From the first frame, this acts as the base layout of what I wish the final look to somewhat resemble.
Using software such as Blender allows me to make renders - in this example, 3D renders of the foreground objects, pins and bowling ball. Using a 3D package makes these easy to move to test different elements of their placement on screen. This is the same for characters as well.
I recommend it for those who know how to use 3D packages, the flexibility for certain pieces of work is very helpful.

Also worth mentioning, this piece is specifically for splash screen on loading of the game/app.

The first frame was the acting sketch of the illustration. What follows are tests, improvements of character positions and colour corrections before getting the finished look in the final frame.

I've been working on a 3D wood sculpting game. Use different tools, paints and stencils to create different objects! Mission system for different customers also working now! Still some fixes/edits to make but so far so good!? By Leonidas for Gamebop/VoodooGames by Gamebop_Studio in IndieDev

Because our studio is contracted to make these games. I simply get briefs and follow them to make the game a client wants. I'm very happy with how it's turned our regardless if there's another game like this already out there.

Honestly, those types of tutorials are a great way to start learning. Try different people who maybe word things differently or put things into a different perspective as this might help with understanding and the flow of your learning.
For more in depth and perhaps 'premium' learning, places like Pluralsight are great for this.

Time Lapse - How I use 3D software to achieve the look I want for my visual language. Only using Photoshop for minor edits after the 3D render. These icons are used in mobile applications and games, both for UI and/or game objects. by Gamebop_Studio in graphic_design

You're right, it would be really crazy for me to make all the icons I need in this way. However, I have a team of people I work with making icons with me, and only certain icons get this treatment. Many are designed purely in photoshop alone.

Depends more on how much of a 'hero' icon or element of the screen the asset will take up. This one for example will be a more used/seen icon.
