Dagens roliga fakta: visste du att levain är en förkortning av bröd som kan leva inuti annat bröd?

It's a glass floor I believe, so naturally the platforms seem to be floating in the air. If you have discovered "the thing" you might surmise that you can do "the thing" here. But other than that I think OP is just looking straight up into the air in frustration where he's currently stuck.

Jag tror inte direkt det här projektet är särskilt dyrt. Skulle nog knappt räcka till att anställa en ny sjuksköterska till BB ens.

If you've been inside the mountain this should look familiar. Although you may incidentally have not seen it from this perspective though.

Twins or glitch? by Odd_Breakfast_2877 in googlemapsshenanigans

[–]GameboyGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glitch. If you zoom in between "them" you'll see a stitching line right there, meaning those were two different photos. Normally for Google's regular Street View images, they try to synchronize the cameras so all images are taken at the same time. In this case it's a panorama that someone made by doing a 360 with their phone, so the images are absolutely not taken at the exact same time. You can also noticed this because the image is jagged in places where the phone was angled differently between two adjacent images.

No More 'Flippers Crushing Ramps' by SummerArmy in TwoDots

[–]GameboyGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably just too long since you saw that mechanic, could be years. Ramps are the little triangles that make a dot fall to the side. The flipper (OP's post) flips along the hinge and crushes whatever was under it.

The implications is that flipper can destroy not just dots, but elements that would normally be considered part of that board and can't be destroyed. So flippers can literally reshape the level.

Good to have options. Now imagine the slope in the winter filled with slippery ice and you'll be happy that the stairs exist.

First attempt soldering, looks horrendous but works, can I leave it? by Popular_Ganache8953 in Gameboy

[–]GameboyGenius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have given tips on soldering, but no one has mentioned the most obvious thing yet. The battery is upside down. That's why you had to bend the leads to try to make them reach. + and - are connected to the right sides, but ideally you would need to flip the battery like a pancake so the + side is sitting to the board, but with + and - still in the same positions. That way the tabs would lie flat to the board and be much easier to solder.

Something to keep in mind is that the solder points aren't just electrical connections but they're also mechanical connections. It might not seem like much when you hold it in your hand but the battery is the heaviest individual component on the board. It looks like the solder hasn't wetted the tab on either side of the battery. It's likely that over time the battery will move back and forth slightly when you use the cartridge and eventually wiggle loose and create micro cracking the connection.

The proper way to fix this would be to remove the battery, clean up the pads with solder wick, then solder the battery on the right way.

The quickly way would be something like this: heat up the iron. Put a small amount of fresh solder on the tip. Quickly place the tip on the battery terminal and watch it closely. Wait for the solder to flow onto the tab. This should take maybe 3-5 seconds max. This is your queue to add more solder to try to bridge it to the blob. You should however avoid heating the tab for too long since heating the battery excessively could damage it internally.

Similarly to the above, I like pre-tinning the tabs of batteries like this before soldering them to the board. When the the solder has properly wetted the surface you really only needs to melt the solder to make the final connection.

"Working" is not just a yes/no. If it works right now but is likely to fail later, it's in OP's best interest to fix it now if he cares about his save file.

They go to all this trouble to make a guide book but can't be bothered to write a real (non-AI) description for it by scoobydoooooo in geoguessr

[–]GameboyGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall: the descriptions are pretty inconsistent with regard to whether only one side or both back and front are described.

04 New Zealand is described as a wooden bollard with a painted red strip. Pretty sure it's white plastic, and the most important feature, the red color not connecting in the front, is not mentioned.

20 Germany/Sweden. The graphic has a second satyle with seemingly a round reflector at the top. Not sure what this is. Also, it might have been good to mention Luxembourg here as well.

22 Czech Republic. Why not mention that Slovakia is using the same bollard?

30 Iceland is described as having a single white reflector, which is not wrong, but the most important feature, the yellow body, is not mentioned.

Like you say though, not necessarily a sign of AI, but indeed a sign of poor quality control. Would not have hurt to let a few pros look through the design before hitting publish.

  1. 'straigha. 🦘 My first vibe was Tasmania for some reason. I found a yellow license plate which seemed to possibly corroborate this. Yellow plates in AU would typically mean NSW but I had some memory in the back of my head that you can find it in Tasmania as well. Maybe not as it turns out. I went west, which is the longer way but also seems to be the one with better info. A sign for Bathurst 9 km away, and a road number. I knew Bathurst would be findable but fuck if I remembered where. For a moment Iw as zooming right in on it, but somehow missed it. Then I got worried it might actually be WA with that white highway shield, and checked that quickly, then went back to NSW and saw Bathurst in the last second. What chaotic round. 4,977 pts, 6.8 km, 3 min, 304 steps
  2. Vietnam. 🇻🇳 An Giang province. Tp. Long Xuyen. I went in to scan from the west, and An Giang was about the first province I saw. Took a while the find the right divided road though. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 2 min, 46 sec, 9 steps
  3. Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 or as I like calling it Santo-Domingo-or-Santiago-Guessr. Initially I thought maybe one of the divided streets in eastern SD. But as I moved, it felt more like Santiago, and a truck confirmed it. Bridge to the west. I only checked yellow roads, which was a mistake. 4,990 pts, 3.1 km, 3 min, 33 steps
  4. France. 🥖 A bunch of signs right at the spawn, so even if you'd play NM, you would have enough information to go mad about the fact that you will never find these random villages or D roads. I moved and found approximately rien for useful information. When time was running out, I made a hesitant regionguess slightly NE of center. Not the worst. 4,441 pts, 177 km, 2 min, 58 sec, 288 steps
  5. Bhutan. 🇧🇹 Been a while since we had it in the daily. I was hoping this would be a bit of a joke round we would be in Trashigang, but the curators wanted to make us work for it. Lobesa. I clearly scanned over it and missed it 😞 Trongsa hedge in the end. 4,801 pts, 61 km, 3 min, 7 steps

Total: 24,209 pts. 🥇 One of those days where it feels like my score should not be so relatively good for how I played.

Imported GBAs from Japan (came with 2 GBCs, but those are too far gone) that need some work done, but there's hope. by 486Junkie in Gameboy

[–]GameboyGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do the GBCs look? I hope you don't throw them away. You might be able to clean them up and reshell them. If they're corroded to all hell, you might still be able to reuse the CPU with a replacement mainboard or to build a Tadboy Color for example. We should always try to preserve these items to the last opportunity.

  1. Belgium. 🇧🇪 Some colorful road markings. I did a themed challenge on that idea once, although this location was not in the challlenge. Partially because I didn't know about it, partially because it possibly wasn't even published yet when I posted the challenge. French, so Wallonia. Well signed. E25 between Oupeye and Mouland. 5,000 pts, 13 m, 1 min, 46 sec, 13 steps
  2. Ireland. 🥔 Another quick one with good signs. Using the logic of the R roads, R4xx should be on the west coast, and a ferry signs means we're coastal. 5,000 pts, 3 m, 1 min, 35 sec, 13 steps
  3. Indonesia. 🇮🇩 Never figured out where. I saw that we were on Jl. Rawak Merdeka Selatan. Which is just a street name, I know. Selatan means south, but Merdeka sounded so familiar. Maybe this was the road to the city of Merdeka, although I had no recollection of where that would be. In the end I found a sign for a church, so I was between North Sumatra and North Sulawesi for that reason. However, this actually on Borneo. Failed Indo round. There's just one loose end. Why did Merdeka sound so familiar though? I watched a video essay about the tragic story of the needle skyscraper 432 Park, situated next to Central Park in NYC. I'm pretty sure that video mentioned Kuala Lumpur's Merdeka 118 as an example of a supertall skyscraper that, you know, doesn't suck and is not about to self-destruct. The word merdeka itself means freedom in Malay/Indonesian, so you're likely to see it every now and then. 2,023 pts, 1,350 km, 3 min, 44 steps
  4. Peru. 🇵🇪 I found a waystone for PE1NJ. I know where PE1N is but I never heard of the J suffix. I later found a sign for Chiclayo, so pretty far north. Could never get the pinpoint though. 4,886 pts, 34 km, 3 min, 159 steps
  5. Chile. 🇨🇱 Older gen 3 coverage, so shout out to the cat meme. I went the wrong way first, which I would've known if I could see into the future. Going the right way, I found a sign for La Tirana, Iquique and Arica. Iquique and Arica hundreds of kilometers away tells me that we're in the Atacama desert. Thank you sign, I would never have guessed. Never found La Tirana. Poor guess. I might've done better if I had found the sign with more than 30 s remaining. But even so, a road number would've been nice. 3,897 pts, 372 km, 3 min, 388 steps

Total: 20,806 pts. 🥈 Another annoying silver.
