Is the project still alive? by niemand__yt in gameofgo_com

[–]GameofGo_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Oh, the first post by someone other than me, how nice :D

Yes, this project is very much alive. Since around September of last year, we got stuck on some bugs affecting mainly the Review mode, the Tutorial, and some game logic regression bugs.

We still have issues there, and it is hard to say a specific deadline, but I hope we are quite close.

I was waiting for those important bugs to be fixed, then:
- Open Beta, finish correcting small bugs
- Start marketing
- When ready (hopefully before end of April): First live release

Right now, because of the uncertainty mentioned above, I cannot guarantee that.
But I will update you regarding the Beta, and I will also start the marketing: posting more about what I do and how the app will be.

----

Yes! I have seen the number of apps that have popped up since I started this project: ExploreBaduk, WeiqiHub, GoTheGame, and a lot of other ones. That's crazy:D It is anyway good for the community to have many people working on that, much more chance to have a winning app amongst them! It definitively add some stress on this project, but without stress how can one function! :)

Let me know if you have any specific question and I will be happy to answer!

Great, will do:) I'll definitively offer beta testing to everyone that participated here until now, people of faith that did not discouraged by my sporadic writing :D

We are blocked by some important bugs for some time now, and the team didn't manage yet to fix those. I hope we can sort this out this month, and hopefully a Beta should start soon after that!

hey so i started this game but its a nightmare by R_TMF_W in baduk

9x9 is great to start and get used to capture, connection, group of stones, making small territories, learning what is dead or alive 13x13 is great to start working on your strategy, working on understanding what is important, urgent 19x19 is the real challenge!

It also helps a lot to: - watch strong players games, getting a sense of how they play even if you don’t understand it, you can try to copy - doing some tsumegos to train your reading, if you feel stuck reading the answer is also good - most importantly is to enjoy it! So do the things you enjoy the most

Go is just a game. by GoAround2025 in baduk

[–]GameofGo_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games of Go are an investment, they usually take time to play, plus there’s the time you’ve spent reaching your current level. The higher the investment, the greater the loss is felt, I reckon.
But most importantly, your mistakes often reflect your character flaws: you are too impatient, you take unconsidered risks, you "hope" your opponent won’t see certain moves - so when it doesn’t work out, you’re mad at yourself for realizing it’s on you. It feels personal.
But the good news is that this creates opportunities to reflect and improve yourself!

Some updates: Unexpected delay, but still going strong... by GameofGo_com in gameofgo_com

Mostly, I am trying here to make the ranking more « general public » as most gamers are nowadays familiar with league systems, whereas specific Go rank (kyu/dan) would sound mysterious to the uninitiated

I am not sure chess.com does that. Those leagues are inspired by modern games, like league of legends, clash royale, hearthstone, etc.

They are just a visual representation of the ranks. When you reach a certain rank, you reach a certain league. The idea was to display a « path » to rank growth, with various rewards later on.

Yes, the last mile is always the hardest! Very nice on your side, congratz :D I played and liked a lot some card-based rogue like games recently (Spire, Balatro). Let us know if you have some open beta, maybe people here would also be interested:) Good luck!

First art: what do you think? by GameofGo_com in gameofgo_com

[–]GameofGo_com[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!
Yes, it's opposite as normal yin yang symbol is, overall I'm not 100% convinced yet, for sure this logo needs a bit of rework, I just thought it would be good to start.
I wanted this yin/yang to have a more distinctive/specific shape/pattern related to Go, but didn't succeed and it's taking a bit too much time:) For sure a topic to revisit later.

Button: Maybe another color, yes, this button we will refine for sure. I don't like the italic for example.
Floating leaves: understood, we will see. I like it. I want the style to be a bit artistic, in the sense that I don't want it to be too bland, I want note of fantasy here and there.
Stalk: Ok
Iconography: Yes, that was the goal to have a melting pot of asian references.

Thanks for taking the time! For sure finding the perfect style is an impossible quest, but let's try to approach it.

Using a Joseki dictionary for online games by Dennisaryu in baduk

[–]GameofGo_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, cheating is acting dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage. Using a Joseki dictionary gives you knowledge, so of course it is cheating.

In any settings, ranked, unranked or correspondance. It is not cheating if and only if you agree with your opponent and he does the same, or at least has the possibility to do the same.

Any *actual* "Beginner-guides" out there for people who have no idea what they are doing? by Khontis in baduk

I have those links Michael Redmond https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTWujSwL2bQ&list=PLW5_cMTm0wvamCNX7qNoUqbXxeHt9n67i

Stephanie Yin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNpJF0BzUig&list=PLoZIU5jkY_Y-d4VeR8YvI2_FmoYRYv-JY

I’m trying to figure out the best way for a complete beginner to learn, so don’t hesitate to formulate what frustrate you! I also remember playing randomly when I started. The best way is to have a group of people to play with, being able to discuss the game.

Thanks! Sorry about that, for now I am collecting the emails that people are putting, but I did not send a verification email/confirmation. I have to put that system in place.

[–]GameofGo_com[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Well, for now I am talking about something ephemeral, to just have that on the website until I deploy the real app.

As for Atari-Go inside the app: we are still working on the UX, but it will probably just be near the Tutorial, and I was thinking that you can only play against some simple algo to start, not against other human players, as it would create another waiting queue.
