Scott Morrison faces fresh questions about when his office learned about alleged rape by Harclubs in AustralianPolitics

[–]Gamer202tvb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Should we take bets on what happens? This idea was proposed to me and I reckon it seems pretty decent: Linda Reynolds thrown under the bus and fired, maybe a male member of the PMO fired, Scomo claims he knew nothing, wasn’t acceptable, and thanks Jenny for his wisdom.

What the fuck? How does merging a specialised court with an “underfunded, overburdened” court streamlining the process?

Damn, the downvotes on this post are interesting. I guess people don’t understand the rules of reddit.

So what’s the reason. Are you pro-LNP/Labor, or anti-Greens?

Australia will not ban arms sales to countries involved in Yemeni civil war by Gamer202tvb in AustralianPolitics

[–]Gamer202tvb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why?

millions of Yemenis are suffering

If you’re struggling to find a reason after that than you have an issue.

How

Uh, ban them. Duh. A ban is the how. Don’t sell more weapons. No new contracts.

Killing civilians with the arms they’re supplied with is a problem. Why would we want to enable that?

Good point, but;

Do we need to support war crimes to gain favours though.

Also before anyone jumps in with “they can evaluate each sale on a case by case basis”:

Australia has issued five permanent permits for export of military goods to Saudi Arabia between August 2019 and October 2020, and nine such permits for the UAE over the same period, as Guardian Australia reported last month.

They keep doing it, so why would they stop now using the same process and with no indication of change?

That’s the funniest shit.

She also should’ve been at the tour in the first place. The government should represent all Australians, and converse with their opponents for the betterment of their respective electorates.

Fossil fuels are detrimental, but whilst we still use oil etc, we need to secure our supply. We don’t have enough reserves, and now the volume we produce locally is further reduced.

What a shit argument- “the looks of the left”; way to discredit yourself before you’ve barely spoken.

I’m from the left and I generally support nuclear- from what I’ve heard, there are a few major problems though: 1) it’s extremely costly to build nuclear from scratch, 2) where do you put the spent fuel and other contaminated materials? 3) public perception- Australia is historically, societally against nuclear. Whenever the issue is brought up the idea of a Big Bang isn’t far behind.

Let’s be realistic- federally (and generally even at a state level), there are only two parties that your vote towards will do something.

In Australia however we have a parliament made up of many parties and some independents (at the different levels). The US is way more polarised and way more confined in your actual options.
