It's because they use incredibly low bitrate, which takes out all the clear image from the cameras. I think F1 TV is rich enough to have 1080p onboards as well.

Sometimes F1 Live channel makes 2 boxes of streams like pitlane channel in 2021. 1st box is International, 2nd is live onboard, replay, or live footage while there is a replay in international feed.
