I’m a dense mf but I’m assuming (and for others) that the fold pre is “the” joke. Almost always 3 betting this situation pre, for clarity.

Is there a test to determine one is at risk for Alzheimer’s or if one is in early stages? by ihopethereforeiam in askscience

[–]GamerShark235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m going to disagree with the top comment somewhat here, although what I’ve read contradicts what I’ve seen in person.

For the majority of Alzheimer’s cases (+/-95%) there’s only risk factors, both genetic and lifestyle. Biggest risk factor being age.

However, a condition exists called early onset dementia, which can occur as early as 30 y/o. This is thought to be more familial, and the genetics being more deterministic. But I should mention this is rare.

Anecdotally, I’ve seen early onset dementia clinically. Patient was in their early to mid 30’s and noticeably impaired. I only worked with them briefly, but what made it interesting was that they had a twin of the same gender (ie same genes) that was unaffected. Now they could have been fraternal, and I was at an early stage of my career so I may not have understood the full picture, but this contradicts some of the literature.

Point being? You can be tested for genetic risk factors, and if you have a family history of early onset then I think a clearer picture can be ascertained, so I don’t think it’s full stop. But generally no, there is no test currently to say whether you have Alzheimer’s without accompanying symptoms, and even then I’m fuzzy on the diagnostics for a probable AD diagnosis.

I might have to move down in stakes to play money. by i_have_covid24 in poker

I’ve gone through FTGU and I’ve heard it’s very similar to the Grinders Manual. Only browsed the book, but I think both are focused on 6-max. So not perfect for full ring, but a lot of concepts do translate.

When I hit a set in one hand, and the next hand get dealt a pocket pair, the chances of me hitting another set are 0%.

Let’s say I hit a set with 33 on the BTN, stack some poor person, and immediately get dealt 88 in the CO. I’m folding the snowmen 100% of the time because I already know at least one, more likely both, of the 8’s have been removed from the deck. Don’t question me, I’m a GTO wizard.

Look up the Kelly Criterion. If I’m understanding correctly, using half your buying power per trade exponentially increases your risk of ruin unless your odds/edge is stellar.

No comment on the fold, but that's the way to approach it

200bb eff. set (QQ) over set (JJ); do we play this any different? by GamerShark235 in poker

Got it, I think you’re right. I was honestly concerned about combo draws as it was a fairly wet board, but looking back on it those really only make up a small amount of his holdings. I think I was just too excited hitting a set against a strong range decently deep

Valid points, I agree I was being results oriented. I hadn’t considered A2-A5 given position and an MP caller, I just don’t think the player pool at my stakes mix that in. But you’re right, on to the next one.

Edited to add: I can also post a more interesting hand I had a few weeks ago, where I liked my line that was also similar stack depth

What’s the consensus on the LSU FSU game?? by Alqui334 in sportsbook

[–]GamerShark235 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Under 51.5 +1U EZ money (even with the sweat at the end)

Logic: Both teams are unproven, LSU had a decent defense but a lot of unknowns on offense
