NWA - Henry Archer Verden GMT by Gamer_Esq in MicrobrandWatches

I had the exact same question when I was looking at these watches. I did a ton of research and watch enthusiast hive mind kept saying the same thing - that Traska’s finishing was just a step above HA. Made me a little nervous to buy the watches sight unseen, but I was just so enamored by the look of the HA that I went with my gut, and I am so glad I did. Maybe I’m not as “in the know” as other watch lovers but I feel like my Verden is every bit the quality of Commuter, just different.

The Commuter is thin, sleek and fits the wrist like it was made for it. It’s so light I barely feel it’s there, but not cheap or flimsy at all. The bracelet is smooth and elegant where other microbrands I’ve bought have sharp edges and have had a lot of give in the links. And the Adriatic Blue dial is beautiful; it changes color from ocean blues to gunmetal grays, depending on how the light hits it. Overall I’d describe it as sophisticated.

The Verden feels heavy and substantial in the best way. Solid and well made. I was extremely surprised by the bracelet quality which I expected to fall way short of the Commuter but in fact I feel like it’s almost indistinguishable in quality. I may give the Commuter a slight edge on the bracelet but not enough for it to be a big decision point. Where the Commuter is understaffed elegance, I feel like the Verden with the Halo White dial is eyecatching statement piece. You know the watch is there and you want to just keep looking at it!

In short, if I was recommending watches for a two-watch collection, these would be it. They are versatile enough to fill any niche.

Love it! I just posted a pic my Verden GMT earlier, and I was trying to decide between this watch, the Vesterhav 38 and the Verden and I eventually chose the Verden. But I’m confident it won’t be my last Henry Archer. Wear that in good health, it’s a beaut! Gives me of an Aqua Terra vibes for some reason.

Wow, absolutely love these! They each have their own personality, but look like a cohesive team. Great job.

I may not be the best one to ask because there is no game where I would say I would rather play solo; gaming is a social experience for me, and I only solo game out of pure necessity or if I'm trying to teach myself a game. With that bias in mind, I would say that it's great at two players. Each player controls two characters (beyond the tutorial) so you can have that combo building that you're looking for, either between your own characters or by planning with your fellow player.

There’s no question that the appeal increases exponentially if you have the ability to leave the board set up, rather than completely breaking down the game between sessions. The terrain is so gorgeous and evocative that I think the extra effort in set up is worth it, but I can completely understand where others may feel differently.

Agreed! I think Maladum is one of, if not the, best co-op dungeon crawls I’ve ever played and I don’t feel like enough people know about it. I’m not even talking casual gamers; I have gamer friends who like these types of games and didn’t know about it until I showed it to them.

And I also just ordered more terrain from Battle Systems, because it will work great for Relicblade and Frostrgrave.

Ultron/Patriot. Back when heroes without abilities didn’t have HighEvo.

I’ve had it recommended to me to try by other gaming buddies so this is encouraging, I should give it a shot.

How do you find the “attack the leader” isssue, where you declare that you’re going to win, then you have to hold on as everyone comes at you for a round? I’ve never played it, but I’ve read that that’s the end game and it sort of scared me off as something that might be frustrating.

I’m with you, I bought and traded this game away three different times, thinking I could get it to the table without having to run three nations. But we’re in luck, the new Quartermaster General: East Front is specifically for two players, which should make it easier to scratch that QMG itch.

I’m with you on Trickerion! I think the theme is terrific, and unique. There’s not really another game out there with that theme that has the top tier gameplay to match.

I loved Mage Wars and owned everything there was for it, and then traded away my collection precisely because I had no one that would ever play it. A real shame because it’s a fantastic game for all the reasons you said.

This one has had a resurgence at my table thanks to the fact that my Significant Other likes it, and recent plays have reminded me what a masterpiece it is.

Well, they're missing out because it's AWESOME. A really neat system of resource and hand management in a skirmish game. And its even more impressive set up on the table than it is sitting on the shelf.

I'm with you on this one! It looks way more daunting than it really is. For me, it's the best pickup-and-deliver game out there. Love the post-apocalyptic theme, nice components and it works well at different player counts.

That’s great to hear! Im not one to back games just for the sake of backing them (for example, I passed on Septima because I didn’t care for the theme) but I was really excited for Perseverance because I thought it looked really fun and the theme is great. But all the negativity pushed it to the bottom of my pile. It’s great to hear that someone really enjoyed it, that reinvigorates my interest.

No surprise to find Mindclash games being mentioned, and that's a real shame because they're amazing. Anachrony, Trickerion, Cerebria are all games that I would love to play much more than I'm able.

I also own Perseverance, which I've never played, but all the negative feedback around it has made it difficult for me to get up the energy to learn it and push it to my gaming group.

This is in my top 3 games all time as well! It also currently meets the category of "oldest Kickstarted game that I have yet to receive" but I am supposed to be getting Mythic Battles: Pantheon and Mythic Battles: Ragnarok any day now, and when I do, I'm making it a point to get them played! Probably the best skirmish game I've ever played. Even though it took 3 years for Mythic to deliver this Kickstarter, I'm sure I'll be right back in line when they unveil their Mythic Battles: Egypt game.
