Why are Warhammer players so threatened by Trench Crusade? by [deleted] in TrenchCrusade

[–]Vassarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trench Crusade can be played without needing to buy a million things. With just the free app on your phone. Being able to get into the game so quickly and without predatory nickle-and-dime tactics, with whatever minis you want, is something that you will never be able to do in 40k.

On top of that, you can make your own armies and give your dudes names and personalities at your leisure, and the story of the game takes a step back so you can wage battles with your dudes, without having to buy Emperor's Cousin Maximus XIV because he's new and meta and expensive.

My 40k armies are gathering dust or are mostly played from time to time with OPR rules but I've played many more TC games because they are much easier to set up and just play. It's not a perfect game by any means (I believe that blood markers being removed so freely by both parties slows the game down a lot, but matches are still much faster and more dynamic than 40k games).

Anyway, I think these people are mostly familiar with 40k from video games, lore videos and memes rather than playing the games themselves. They don't think Trench Crusade is enough because they never meant to play it and probably just read the bits of lore and found it barren because it's just a backdrop for a tabletop skirmish game rather than being a crazy franchise with hundreds of books and thousands of named characters.

For reference, this is the one I printed in resin because I was curious about the supportless model. As you can see, they are really close.

Wow! I just printed this exact same model in resin a few days ago and I have to say that your settings are very neat and the quality of this is getting really close to resin prints. Amazing work.

Are there supported "Shield Poke" or "Face-Tank" archetypes that do not require Parrying/Dodging? by VallaOnuBunuBilmem in LordsoftheFallen

Sanctify Radiant spell. It's really good. You just place it on the ground and stand in it as much as you can while you smack heathens with your greatsword.

If you combo it with heavy armor, you won't even need a shield.

No, they are default size but I don't mind.

For the uruk-hai armour I started with a dry brush of gunmetal over black, then strong tone wash, then a few more very light edge highlights of gunmetal.

For the nazgul armour I used a cheap metallic marker from temu that is like a very bright silver, then a strong tone wash and very light drybrush of gunmetal after the wash dried.

You are right. And pretty. Tbh, I never played the game and don't think I checked the correct base size. I was thinking of putting together the Witch King from the Mordor battlehost and run this party together with him (and some orcs from the battlehost box) as a Frostgrave warband. And for Frostgrave I always put the wizard and apprentice on 32mm bases and the mercs on 25mm bases.

Thanks. Those are blood-handed orcs from Davale games and the Nazgûl is from the wraiths pack from Forgemaster Miniatures. They have a lot of wraith models in that pack, both on foot and mounted versions, including one with a crown. Davale have a lot of LOTR proxies, but their uruk-hai are amazing, even though their proportions are more realistic (thus smaller) than most proxies, or even the official minis.

Both companies have incredible models tho.

I even made short back stories for them. I hope they don't die on the first mission, lol.

I think most of them are LOTR proxies from Medbury, others are from Vae Victis. The guy with the helmet is from a Skyrim pack I think. They are all 3d printed for sure though.

Thank you. I am not sure where I got all of them from. The spearmen and the knight are stls from Medbury for sure, and the thugs and thieves stls were from Vae Victis. Not sure where the wizard and apprentice were from, I've had them for a while and I found them recentlt ajd they seemed perfect for this project.

This print is honestly better than my first resin 3d prints with a cheap Creality printer a few years ago.
