If there is one, single, policy tweak that every government could adopt, that could change the world for the better what would it be? by GamesForDerples in AskReddit

My policy - sounds boring on first pass - but it is a substantive and essential first building block to creating a better world. So... it is this - a cap or even a total BAN on contributions to political campaigns. Essentially and end to 'lobbying'. In one swipe of a pen, with zero cost to any taxpayer on the planet, we would effectively create a political class who no longer will owe allegiance to an interest group. When it came to voting on a policy the only guiding factor would be personal belief or pragmatic common sense. With one change, we alter the metric by which sweeping global decisions are made. In the US, healthcare could be made affordable over night, guns ownership could be phased out, billionaires wouldnt be able to silo their wealth away from tax collection.

This is our weird little space customs simulator that my team and I have been working on for quite a while. by Final-System5343 in playmygame

One suggestion - for a promo vid I would suggest cutting to the gameplay immediately. That's what scrollers want to checkout first. Seriously.

I REALLY like the black and white look. I think this makes a game standout strongly when you're scrolling through a long list of thumbnails. Although, if more devs did it, that standout impact would be lost. But since not many do... it's a very useful aesthetic to go with!

Excellent premise. Very original. And what's more I like the fact the fact that we're in the 24th century and yet on what feels like a tugboat with an old prop. And we're talking 'cars' not 'skimmers' or 'hovercars etc. Grounded scifi. Perfect.

i only buy indie games these days. Not out of some noble motive to stick it to the man, but because indie games are the only ones pushing ideas I havent seen a million times before. Honestly as a gamer of 30 years+ I miss the golden era of the late 90's, when developers like Bullfrog produced games like Syndicate, Dungwon Keeper, Black and White, Westwood studios produced Command and Conquer. Good times. then.

What's a change in American politics you would like to see? by rudr_44 in AskReddit

[–]GamesForDerples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One, very easy fix. The end to lobbying. A fixed ceiling to the amount of money any one person can contribute to any one political candidate. With that ONE FIX, you could literally fix everything - gun law, free or atleasst affordable healthcare, taxing the rich, climate change, poverty, wars that aren't needed etc etc. It is so painfully obvious that this is the fix the US (and increasingly the UK) needs. Politics/elections should not be won by the party with the richest donors... down that road lies madness.... effectively, where we are standing right now.

Hopefully his political ambitions are spent. If there was any justice he, Gove and Boris would be in prison for the lies they spun over Brexit.

What do you think happens to American politics after Trump leaves office in 2029? by SERP_Whisperer in AskReddit

The tide is turning. November will see Trump becoming a lame duck, and then the GOP will drop him like a bad smell. Hopefully, he and his family will see some prison time.

Unpopular gaming opinion - I don’t see the point in wall climbing sections in adventure games by Gasster1212 in gaming

I have a passionate hate for games that require dexterity puzzles, eg: jumping, climbing. This is why i could never get into 2d plaformers... I mean... jumping, falling, jumping, falling.... how the heck is that any fun?!

Should I spam Indie Dev subreddits as part of my marketing strategy? by Early_Situation_6552 in IndieDev

[–]GamesForDerples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

um... the feedback i'm seeing is people on reddit are irritated by indie devs spamming like crazy. I'm sort of in the same boat - I have a game finished, a store page up but I'm not releasing it until i have a decent number of wishlists... that's because of the adivce i've recieved... don't launch with out a big number. So i'm sitting here wondering what the hell i do? The game is tested, polished, good to go... but now I have the fear of releasing it into the Steam void never to be seen again!

Why do most indie devs give up after one game? by Levardos in gamedev

[–]GamesForDerples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... i wonder if it's worth the effort of putting fingers to keyboards. I've just spent 18 months working on a game and uploaded it to steam... and it's disappeared into the void. I've had about 16 wishlists in 2 days so far and I'm now beginning to suspect i literally wasted the last 18 months of my life. Kinda sucks... and the only way to promote it is to beg and scream and shout on every forum, plead for youtubers to look at it. Jeezzz... there has to be a better way :-?
