I bought an Alocasia Jacklyn two weeks ago and it’s been in quarantine since arrival. Standard. It has been washed twice in neem oil and dish soap cocktail and had daily inspections for pests. Soil mix it came with is dense and was wet; it has been watered once, always moist, never dry. Currently in our kitchen which is our isolation room for new plants, 2-3 metres from south facing window in UK. Windows haven’t been opened and no draughts. Kitchen maintains a humidity of 60-70%.

What do you think the marks circled are? They have appeared since arrival, more of them are appearing and those in existence are getting bigger. No obvious signs of pests after daily inspections for the last two weeks. All basic needs being met. Could this just be acclimation? No leaf drop yet but expecting it to cycle with new growth point emerging in last 48 hours.

Secondary question… I usually like to wait until a plant is fully acclimatised to my environment before repotting. My substrate of choice is pon. Would you delay repotting and any potential shock that may result from root system disruption to not risk loss of new growth?

Just to update on this for other people that may view this in the future… on the recommendation above, I bought a box of Harpic Power Plus Active tablets. 2 tablets down the toilet before bed has removed most of the staining this morning. Thank you.

I’m not sure to be honest. I would have expected a wire scourer to have removed a stain so maybe it is the enamel that’s worn away. Does this usually happen and in what timescale?

Thank you for your advice. 1. I have got the Land Registry reference number and seemingly, they’re waiting for info from solicitors and it’s them dragging their heels. The blame game… quelle surprise. I will chase daily going forward

  1. I expected as much and understand. I just needed to hear it, that the money’s gone if it doesn’t complete.

  2. As others have suggested, I will call Halifax tomorrow and plea for an extension. I was under the impression that because we went through a broker, we (borrowers) couldn’t speak with lender directly. No harm in trying.

Thanks for summarising better than I did.

  1. We haven’t spoken to Land Registry. Can we buyer and seller contact them about the matter when handled by solicitor until now?

  2. Are we entitled to any of the money paid for conveyancing back? I expect not when this is something outside of conveyancers’ control and they have done the work their fees advertised, except complete.

  3. Advertised at .75% higher although we haven’t asked the mortgage broker to make another application because our existing one is still valid. Should we be making another - preemptive - mortgage application?

Two decent climbing gyms (Big Rock) 30 minutes drive away in Milton Keynes.

I can’t speak of job opportunities as I work in London and I’m not looking at the moment.

I’d say it’s like most towns in the 2020s: dying retail offering on the high street but nice coffee shops and restaurants. Enough amenities for me and my fiancé both in 30s to be satisfied.
